When My Ex's Worst Enemy Became My Sanctuary novel Chapter 369

Albert was just about to breeze through the fast-track security lane when a voice from behind called out his name. It sounded strangely familiar.

He spun around and, to his surprise, saw Dorothea.

“Dorothea?” He almost smiled, caught off guard. “Did you actually come all the way here to see me off?”

Dorothea, forgetting she was pregnant, stormed up to him and, without warning, slapped him hard.

“Albert, you’re disgusting! Where’s Latham? Tell me right now! If you’ve hurt him, I swear, I’ll make you pay for it!”

For a few moments, Albert just stood there, stunned, one hand rising slowly to his cheek. Even the security staff were frozen, unsure of what just happened.

“You… you hit me?”

Dorothea glared, eyes blazing. “Why couldn’t I? You wasted my time today on purpose, just so you could take Latham. I can’t believe you’d stoop this low, Albert.”

“I’ve told you so many times, I don’t like you. There’s nothing between us. Will you please stop following me? Even if you were the last man alive, I’d never fall for you. Now tell me, where is my husband?”

Her words hit him, sharp and relentless. He felt as if he’d been lifted by hope for a split-second, only to be slammed to the ground again.

Albert tried to steady himself, taking a long breath. “Dorothea, calm down. I didn’t kidnap Latham. I wouldn’t, and I don’t need to. What would I even gain from that? I still have some pride left. Even if I like you, even if I want to be with you, I’d only want it if you had nobody else in your heart. Not like this.”

But Dorothea was past reasoning. “So what—now you want him dead? Albert, you ever think about what happens if you kill someone? You could go to prison for life!”

Mamie rushed up, gently sliding her arm around Dorothea’s shoulders. She shot Albert a wary look, ready to support her friend no matter what happened next.
