When My Ex's Worst Enemy Became My Sanctuary novel Chapter 381

“Honey, next time you steal a snack, at least wipe your mouth.”

Dorothea was speechless, caught red-handed. Carmen fumbled for words too, glancing away with a guilty look.

Funny how guilt always makes people cranky.

Dorothea stuck her chin out, trying to sound tough. “Yeah, I ate it. So what? Latham, you promised you’d spoil me forever, and now you won’t even let me have a little ice cream when I’m craving it.”

Latham let out a quiet sigh and rubbed her back, his voice gentle. “I’m not stopping you, babe. But the doctor said you might go into labor a week early. I just… I don’t want anything to go wrong. Your due date is so soon, I have to be extra careful.”

He tried to make her smile. “How about this? Once the babies are here, we’ll have all the ice cream you want. Deal?”

Dorothea mumbled under her breath, stealing a longing glance at Carmen’s ice cream. Her mouth watered. “Fine, but I get my ice cream the moment I’m allowed after recovery.”

Latham pinched her soft cheek, grinning. “You can have as much as you want. Promise.”

At 38 weeks, Dorothea was just sitting down in the bathroom when she suddenly felt a heavy drop in her belly.

She knew right away: it was time.

They had installed a phone in the bathroom just for moments like this.

The second the phone rang, Latham rushed in. “Is it starting?”

Dorothea nodded.

Latham gently helped her to the bed while the nanny double-checked their hospital bags and Aldin ran to get the car.

Suddenly, everything was happening at once.

It was well past midnight, but Dorothea didn’t want to wake the grandparents. “Let’s tell them when the sun’s up. I’m alright, really.”

Latham’s hands shook. He tried to calm Dorothea. He tried to calm himself too. “It’s okay. We trust the doctors… Everything’s going to be alright.”
