Reborn, Reawakened, Rekindled novel Chapter 142

Neil held me in his arms, his voice laced with pain. "Rena, nobody wanted this accident to happen. Bonnie was shocked too, she's been in hospital for the past couple of days. She's blaming herself."

"Neil!" I broke free from his grasp, glaring at him with the most disgusted, furious look I had ever given anyone. I wished I had never met this man.

"She was the one who came to my ward and pushed me off the bed on purpose! She killed my baby!" Tears streamed down my face uncontrollably.

Neil was taken aback, seemingly unaware of the situation. "Malinda said when she entered, you were already on the floor. Bonnie was having a heart attack, she was in a wheelchair, she wouldn't have done it."

If losing the baby was the first major hit I took, then Neil's words were like pouring salt into the wound.

I stared at him in disbelief. "Neil, that was your baby too. How could you protect the person who killed your child? Just because Bonnie looks like Karina Aaron? Just because she has a heart condition and can't handle the shock?"

Neil's eyes darkened, filled with unspeakable complex emotions.

In a fit of rage, I slapped him hard across the face.

"Asshole!" I cursed. "You like Bonnie, fine, I'll divorce you. If you two are together, I'll go abroad and hide as far away as possible. What more do you want? Why didn't you keep an eye on that murderer? Why did you let her flaunt herself in front of me? We're divorced, why should I tell you about the baby I'm carrying? Are you planning on snatching the child back so Bonnie can play stepmother? Neil, I hate you, I hate you to death. I hope you and Bonnie will get what's coming to you!"

I lost control of my anger, picking up the pillow and whatever fruits I could find on the bedside table and threw them at Neil.

He didn't dodge, and soon I saw blood appearing on him.

Just then, our parents arrived from home and were stunned by the chaos in the room.

My mom rushed over to support me, her voice shaking with anger. "What on earth is going on, Rena? How could you be pregnant and not tell me? What happened to the baby?"

Neil's father looked furious, he walked over and slapped Neil across the face. "Are you even human? How could you treat Irene like this? I heard that Bonnie came over and caused Irene's miscarriage, and you're still trying to protect her!"

"It wasn't Bonnie." Neil still chose to believe Bonnie.

This statement set his mother off, she had never liked Bonnie.

Faith angrily hit her son with her bag, not noticing Neil already covered in bruises.

My dad's face was scarily stern. He watched as the Whitmores scolding Neil, but he didn't say a word.

He came over and ruffled my hair. "Rena, it's okay. Let's go home, your mom and I will take care of you."

I threw myself into my dad's arms and cried my heart out. Eventually, worn out, I fell back onto the bed and fell into a deep sleep.

After losing the baby, I dreamt of a little girl for several days. She was learning to walk, stumbling towards me while calling me "mommy" in her baby voice.

Each time I woke up, I would find my face wet with tears.

My parents visited me every day, as did Russel, who seemed to have become more silent, his eyes tinged with regret.

"If I had been there that day, this wouldn't have happened, right?" he asked.

"Russel, this isn't your fault. The ones in the wrong are Neil and Bonnie, you don't need to blame yourself."

Even though I had somewhat calmed down, the wound was still there, and it would never fully heal.

Tomorrow, I will be discharged and then resign from my job here and return home.
