Reborn, Reawakened, Rekindled novel Chapter 181

I was speechless.

Just as I thought, Neil wasn’t one to take a hit without giving one back. I genuinely thought he’d just got beaten up, and the guy walked away without a scratch.

“Why were they fighting? I thought you said Raymon went to apologize to Neil?” Alicia appeared confused.

Cooper, having been a bystander, surely knew what went down, but he seemed hesitant to speak and even glanced at me.

That got me a little scared. I was seriously worried he’d say it was because of me again.

Cooper cleared his throat and said, “Raymon said some nasty things about Irene. Neil had a few drinks in him, so he lost it.”

I just facepalmed, speechless. Cooper might as well not have said anything.

Now everyone was looking at me with different expressions on their faces.

“When Rena was crazy about him, why didn’t he appreciate it?” Stella, always direct, said angrily.

Mitch quickly tried to calm her down, “Honey, don’t get mad. It was Neil’s fault in the past. Hasn’t he paid the price now? Let’s not bash him; he’s already injured.”

Stella just rolled her eyes.

Sean then chimed in and said, “I seem to remember seeing Mr. Whitmore in the tabloids with various actresses a few years ago, but I’m not sure if it was true or not.”

Sean was very calm when he said this as if it was just casual conversation.

“You remember correctly, Neil was never quiet back then. After his divorce, these past two years, he’s actually settled down. He really brought it on himself.” Alicia didn’t mind Sean adding fuel to the fire. In fact, she was fanning the flames.

Mitch and Cooper had intended to keep me here to console Neil, so he could recover. Instead, it turned into everyone else gossiping about Neil.

Both of them were extremely awkward. After all, they were the ones who sided against me with Neil.

After a while, it was already late, and Neil was finally brought back.

He was now in a hospital gown, with bandages wrapped around his head. He looked weak, but his eyes were very clear.

Mitch and Cooper immediately followed into the room, asking the nurse about his condition.

After the nurse had given her instructions, she left.

We were all standing around Neil’s bed, but only Mitch and Cooper seemed genuinely concerned.

As for me, I wasn’t worried about him; I was just concerned about how to explain to my parents if I got home late.

In my past life, when I was in the late stages of cancer, didn’t Neil not care about me? Aside from discussing our divorce, he hardly ever saw me.

Remembering the pain I had suffered, I even began to regret coming here today.

“Neil, you’ll have to stay in the hospital for a while. What are you going to do about the company?” Mitch asked.

“I’ll delegate to the other executives for now, don’t worry.” Neil’s voice was a bit hoarse, probably because of the alcohol.

Mitch nodded, then thoughtfully poured Neil a glass of water. Stella, Alicia, Sean, and I were just standing there like ornaments.

This was the first time Neil had been so seriously injured, didn’t Russel know? Why hadn’t he come?

My mind started racing. In situations like these, Russel should be concerned about Neil's condition. This hospital was where Russel worked.

And Neil's injury was to the head, which was exactly Russel's field of expertise.
