"Don't put me on the spot." I finally replied after a moment of silence.
Over the years, I've given Neil countless chances, but he never valued them.
My answer brought a look of disappointment on Faith's face. She sighed, "It's his fault."
"Pointing fingers now doesn't make a difference. Neil is not a kid, and he has to take responsibility for his past actions." I said softly.
"Rena, do you have someone you fancy?" Faith suddenly asked.
I shook my head calmly, "No, but it doesn't mean I will backtrack."
Faith gave a bitter smile, "That's not what I meant. I just hope you find someone you like soon; it would also help Neil to get over you."
It was easier said than done, especially when I didn't know where to find the one I'd like.
"All right, Irene." Faith stood up, her expression much more relaxed, "I understand your decision. Sorry for barging in today."
Faith had always been good to me, except for not telling me about Karina Aaron. I didn't completely resent her. Seeing her humble herself for Neil, I felt a mix of sympathy and helplessness.
After seeing Faith out, I immediately received a call from Neil.
"Did my mom visit you?" Neil asked.
"She just left." I answered, "You knew she was coming, and you didn't stop her?"
Neil sounded defeated, "She mentioned it to me. I told her not to bother you. But by the time I woke up, she was gone."
He paused, his voice growing softer as he said, "Anyway, don't listen to her."
As if I would, I was not crazy.
Since he was only calling about this, I hung up after I answered his question.
Ten days after Neil was hospitalized, he was discharged when he was almost recovered.
Of course, I learned this from the news, and we hadn't been in touch for the past ten days.
The reason for his fight with Raymon was dug up during these days. I was just chilling at home when the gossip and controversy came raining down.
The Internet was abuzz with all sorts of theories, some of them downright ridiculous.
Somebody said, "I have a crazy theory. What if Neil and his ex-wife are still in love, and Bonnie is just a tool for Neil to provoke his ex-wife?"
Another one said, "They never appeared together before their divorce. Is Mr. Whitmore trying to get back with his ex-wife now?"
The five-year marriage between Neil and me was indeed awkward. Now that it was brought up again, everyone knew the names Neil and Bonnie, but when it came to me, I was referred to as "his ex-wife.”
These high-profile past events were easy targets for analysis, and it was kind of funny even for me.
Luckily, Bonnie soon took some of the heat off me.
The day after Neil's discharge, she revealed her current status to the public. She was Ms. Zora, the one who held two billion in investment funds, and the adopted daughter of Abner, the vice president of Harmony Enterprises.
The news caused a sensation.
