I was not typically one to gossip, but when my ex-husband and his current girlfriend were having a spat next door, it was hard not to peek.
Neil came out of the room next door; his face was as dark as a storm cloud. The moment he spotted me watching, his gaze stabbed at me like a blade.
I flashed him a sympathetic smile. Women could be unreasonable sometimes. Bonnie was a lot younger than him; he should cut her some slack.
"Bang!" The door next door slammed shut.
"What are you smiling at?" Neil suddenly confronted me, his deep-set eyes filled with iciness.
I quickly wiped the smile off my face, shaking my head, "Nothing. I just thought of something funny."
Neil stared at me coldly, "What's so funny? Share the joke; maybe I'll laugh too."
Truth be told, I was so stressed out that I could hardly find anything funny.
Alicia was still in the shower, and the hallway was deserted, so it was just me and Neil.
“Actually, nothing’s funny. I didn’t laugh. You must have seen wrong.” I dropped the act, “Why don’t you go and make up with your girlfriend? It’s normal for couples to fight and reconcile. You shouldn’t take it too hard.”
“What’s it to you?” Neil responded coldly.
It wasn’t any of my business, but wasn’t he the one dragging me into this?
Since it wasn’t my business, I decided to close my door and get back to work.
Neil stopped me, “Why are you here? Why are you living right next door to her?”
“What’s so strange about that? Don’t worry, I’m not here to stalk your girlfriend. I have no interest in her.” I answered aloofly.
As Bonnie’s boyfriend, didn’t Neil know that StarGlow Enterprises was competing with my family’s company for the same counter supplier?
Even I had discussed the company’s affairs with Russel. If he didn’t know about this, then there might be some problems in his relationship with Bonnie.
That’s when Neil glanced into my room. He heard faint sounds of water and furrowed his brows, "Is Russel with you?"
He probably thought Russel was the one in the shower.
I looked back at the bathroom, neither denying nor confirming his suspicion, "That's none of your business. I'm going to bed. Goodnight."
"That's interesting. He actually came out?" Neil blocked the door, his eyes gloomy.
What he said was strange, as if it were impossible for Russel to come with me. After a moment's thought, I understood.
"You told his parents he was with me last night, didn’t you?" I stared into Neil's eyes, accusing him.
Neil raised an eyebrow; his silence was a tacit admission.
I knew he was a lowlife!
Having nothing more to say to such a person, I closed the door.
Alicia came out of the bathroom after her shower. She curiously asked, "Who were you talking to earlier?"
"My assistant dropped off some documents." I casually answered, then settled down to look through the files.
I slept well that night, but I had no idea if Bonnie and Neil had made up next door.
In Dreamscape District, my main goal was to negotiate with Evershine Enterprises, but for some reason, despite having made an appointment, we kept failing to meet up.
