Reborn, Reawakened, Rekindled novel Chapter 233

"I really appreciate your help today, but it's pretty late; you should head back and get some rest." I didn't want to kick Neil out, but I truly believed he needed a good rest.

He was in the hospital just a few days ago, so his health wasn't in any better shape than mine.

Neil didn't agree with me, and his eyes turned cold. "You're always quick to boot me out after you've used me."

"That's not it; I'm just concerned about your health. How did you get discharged so quickly?" My mind was bursting with family matters, so I had no intention of targeting Neil.

Neil turned sour when I brought up his health, "I'm in top shape. Want to test me out?"

He said while looking at me with deep intent.

I was baffled. His words stirred up all sorts of weird thoughts. I waved him off, "Nah, save it for someone else."

Neil raised an eyebrow, "Fine by me."

We sat in the large living room, the atmosphere gradually quieting down. With my mind filled with worries and the effect of the medication, I couldn't help but doze off on the couch.

I intended to send Neil home before falling asleep, but as I closed my eyes, I saw him already passed out on the opposite couch.

He laid casually on the couch with his lips tightly closed. From my angle, the curve of his Adam's apple was very attractive.

As I watched, I finally dozed off; my last thought was to spend the night on the couch.

I hadn't been sleeping well these past few days, so I slept soundly. When I woke up, I stared blankly at the ceiling. This wasn't the ceiling of my bedroom, was it?

I quickly looked around and saw no sign of Neil.

My clothes were neat; nothing felt odd. I had taken medication, not alcohol, so nothing out of place should have happened.

Neil probably carried me to bed after he woke up.

I got up and changed, preparing to head to the office.

Just as I reached the living room downstairs, I heard noises from the kitchen. Was there a burnt food smell in the air?!

I rushed to the kitchen only to find Neil in my mom's old apron. His face was smudged black, and he was holding kitchen utensils, looking like a defeated chef.

"Cough, cough..." I choked on the burnt smell as soon as I opened my mouth.

A flash of embarrassment crossed Neil's face, "I don't know how to use your kitchen tools."

I covered my nose and mouth, turned on the exhaust fan, and opened the windows to let the air circulate, then I shooed Neil out of the kitchen.

As for the burnt thing in the pot, I didn't even look.

"Were you trying to burn my house down?" I asked helplessly, "Neil, do you have no self-awareness of your cooking skills?"

Neil calmly found a wet wipe and wiped the black smudges off his face until it was flawless, "I was just trying a new cooking method, but I hit a little bump."

"Why didn't you try it at your place? This is too risky!" I protested.

Neil scoffed, "Haha, I'm touched by my own actions. I took you to bed last night, got up to make breakfast, and this is your attitude?"

Okay, he was indeed taking care of me, but I didn't need it.
