Neil sat by my hospital bed, studying me quietly for a moment before saying, "The autopsy report is in. Oscar froze to death. He called you before he died."
I was already crying. After Neil spoke, I burst into tears even harder.
"The area wasn't covered by surveillance videos, and the camera in the freezer room was broken. The cops think Oscar got a call and went there, maybe thinking that the freezer warehouse was abandoned and deciding to check it out. They think he accidentally got locked in."
I didn't buy any of Neil's crap. How could Oscar be so careless as to wander into an abandoned freezer room in the suburbs and lock himself inside just out of curiosity?
I was too choked up to speak, but I knew something was off.
"It's Bonnie's doing!" After a while, I calmed down a bit and told Neil, "She's been trying to get Oscar out of Rosemont. She's the only one who'd harm Oscar!"
"We don't have any proof yet." Neil took my hand. "We need to keep our cool."
"How can I keep my cool? Neil, I killed Oscar, don't you see? I'm the one to blame! He was so good, and I got him killed! How can I stay calm?" I said as my voice filled with emotion.
Noticing that I was getting more and more worked up, Neil hugged me and whispered, "You need to rest. If Bonnie really did this to Oscar, I promise I'll make her pay, okay?"
I was blinded by rage and hatred. When Neil said that, I pushed him away and snapped, "Why would you help me? You're nothing but a liar! You can't stand the fact that I divorced you while you're still tangled up with Bonnie!"
As soon as I said that, Neil's face changed. He gritted his teeth and asked, "Do you think I'm just unwilling to accept the divorce when it comes to you?"
"Isn't that the truth? Neil, I’m the only person who has ever dumped you in your life, right? If you truly loved me, you wouldn't be making deals with me and pushing me, would you?" I glared at him, as if he were also the murderer who killed Oscar.
Neil's eyes were practically spewing fire. "Irene, I know you're hurting right now, so I don't want to make it worse. But if you insist on taking my sincerity as hypocrisy, I'll make you regret it!"
"Why did you partner with StarGlow Enterprises then? Isn't it because of Bonnie?" I sneered, "And Karina! If she hadn't died, we would have divorced the day after our wedding, right?"
These two women were like thorns in my heart, especially Bonnie. She had caused me to have a miscarriage. If she was the one who killed Oscar, I'd make her pay!
"My partnership with StarGlow Enterprises has nothing to do with Bonnie." Neil's anger faded a bit, and his tone became cold.
"How am I supposed to trust you if you won't tell me anything?" I tried to calm myself down. "Neil, I'm not even sure if you're really trying to help me or if you're just using it as an excuse to spy on me for Bonnie."
Neil clearly didn't want to listen to me anymore. He gave me a cold look and walked out without looking back.
I sat on the edge of my bed, staring blankly. What difference did it make to voice the doubts in my heart?
Stella and the others walked in. After hearing about my conversation with Neil, Stella said helplessly, "Rena, you were too impulsive this time. If you had let Neil help, it would have saved you a lot of trouble."
"You all should go. I want some alone time." I felt extremely tired. Maybe I was just overwhelmed by everything.
Knowing me well, Stella and the others understood that they should give me some space at this time.
When I was alone in the room, I took out my phone and opened WhatsApp. After clicking on Oscar's profile, my heart was still filled with pain.
