I bought some food and then headed back to the hospital.
My mom had just woken up, and it seemed like she'd need to stay in the hospital a few more days. So that means I had to frequent the hospital these days.
To avoid running into Russel again, I decided to switch my mom to a different hospital pronto.
"Where's your dad?" After moving to the other hospital, my mom finally asked me, "Why haven't you told him I’m awake?"
My heart sank a little hearing that question.
"Mom, dad’s been a bit tied up these days, but he'll be back soon," I managed to force a smile and fobbed her off.
Though I'd have to tell her about my dad sooner or later, she had just recovered and was still so weak, I didn't want to upset her.
Quickly, I tucked her in tightly and comforted her, "If dad saw you like this, he'd be heartbroken. Give it a few days, when you look better, he should be done with his stuff."
My mom closed her eyes tiredly and then sighed softly, "Hmm, your dad must be worried about me. He's retired now, why’s he still so busy?"
"Exactly because he's retired, he's been invited by his old friends for traveling, to relax a bit." I tried to picture my dad taking a vacation.
My mom finally smiled, "That’s good, he's been working all the time, now he should relax a bit."
We chatted in the ward, these days I planned to stay in the hospital until she was discharged.
During this time, I didn't care about anything happening outside, only Stella would fill me in on some stuff.
"This grapefruit is really sweet, try some!" Stella was peeling the grapefruit, feeding my mom.
In front of my mom, our conversations were very cautious, we absolutely avoided mentioning my dad and Neil.
"Hmm, it's really sweet, thanks, Stella." My mom was recovering pretty well these days, but she had some heart issues, so even after getting discharged, she'd need to be extra careful.
"As long as you like it," Stella said with a smile, "I've been having some backaches recently, Rena, accompany me for a check-up, will ya?"
Hearing Stella was not well, my mom instantly told me to go with her for a check-up, I nodded.
Stella surely had something to tell me, that's why she used this excuse.
As expected, not long after we left the ward, Stella's tone changed, she said angrily, "Oh my god, that jerk Neil, he's really with Bonnie now!"
Upon hearing this news, I wasn't shocked, when I moved out from Sterling Estates, I had anticipated this outcome.
"That’s fine." I walked into the elevator, answering indifferently.
"Rena, you're not mad? Before he tried getting back together with you, and now that you've moved back to Sterling Estates, he went to Bonnie, what a scumbag!" Stella started rolling up her sleeves, "I wanna slap him right now!"
I held her hand tightly, "Please stay calm, don’t bother with them."
Stella let out a deep sigh, "I can ignore them, but I think you're upset. If your mom knew about all these things that happened recently…"
"She must not know, I didn’t even get her a phone." I cut Stella off, "Once she's discharged, I'll take her back to Sapphire River Community, won’t let anyone blabber in front of her."
Stella looked at me for a few seconds, then helplessly shook her head.
