Reborn, Reawakened, Rekindled novel Chapter 539

The doctor approached Neil, glancing at me and Karina before whispering something in Neil's ear and handing him a document. He then departed.

I caught snippets of their conversation.

“A mistake… apologies.”

"Our fault… negligence…”

“This is the fresh result.”

I had a hunch about the doctor's purpose. It seemed that there had been a mix-up with the paternity test results of Neil and Hiram. Hiram was still Neil's biological son after all.

Karina, too, must have heard some of the conversation. Her calmness was uncharacteristic, and I sensed something was off.

Her strong initial refusal, followed by her sudden disappearance; it was too erratic.

During my visits to Hiram, Karina hadn't shown up once. It was unlike someone who was desperate to fight for custody of Hiram. Hadn't she mentioned that she wanted to treat Hiram herself?

Neil opened the document, his expression changing subtly after he finished reading. It was a mix of relief and melancholy.

Karina feigned ignorance, "What is it?"

"Nothing." Neil's hand fell naturally at his side.

"I came here to see if you're willing to give up on Hiram. If you don't want him anymore, I'll take him away right now. Whether I can cure his illness or not, that's my business. From then on, he will be none of your concern, he will no longer carry the Whitmore surname, but the Parker one."

With that, she started towards the room. Surprisingly, Neil didn't move, which left me taken aback.

Regardless, I found myself following her into the room. Hiram was awake. Upon seeing Karina, instead of excitement, he looked nervous and timid, "Mommy, I'm sorry."

"Hiram, why are you apologizing? Mommy is here to take you away from here. From now on, we will live together in a better place, okay?" Karina began to remove the IV from Hiram's arm.

Hiram's eyes lit up, but upon seeing me, the light dimmed.

It seemed he was reluctant to leave me, or maybe it was just my imagination.

Neil stood by the door, not interrupting Karina's actions. But seeing Hiram, who had lost so much strength, I couldn't help but intervene, "Wait, you can't take him."

Karina paused, and Hiram sat back down on the bed, silently observing everything.

"What is it, Irene? Are you trying to take my child away for Neil? You're a mother too, aren't you afraid of karma?" Karina's words were harsh, even implicating me.

She knew about Serena and Brandon. She also knew that I didn't want the Whitmore family to find out about my children's identity.

If I continued to oppose her, and she revealed everything she knew, I would be in deep trouble.

Reluctantly, I stepped aside. I didn't want my children to be taken away.
