Reborn, Reawakened, Rekindled novel Chapter 555

This couldn't have been bought by Hiram himself, yet he adamantly denied it was a gift from Karina. I asked Faith to tuck away the black pill for now; we'd get a professional to take a closer look later to figure out what it really was.

Hiram was a bundle of nerves, wrapping himself up in the blanket, too scared to peek out at Faith and me.

"Let's try to get some rest," I suggested to Faith.

The hospital room had only one guest bed, but it was sizable enough for both Faith and me to fit comfortably. Faith nodded in agreement.

Hiram didn't catch a wink of sleep that night. Every time I opened my eyes, I'd catch him peeking out from under his blanket, watching us. The moment he realized I was awake, he'd quickly hide under his blanket again.

Worry for Hiram kept me from a good night's sleep, and I woke up feeling all sorts of uncomfortable—a sentiment Faith shared judging by her pallor.

When the doctor came for his rounds and saw Faith, he teased Hiram, "Hey there, Hiram, your grandma's here. Didn't you say you missed her a lot? You must be thrilled today, huh?"

Faith's expression turned a tad awkward. To outsiders, she was still Hiram's grandmother, unaware of the truth that Neil wasn't Hiram's biological father.

Hiram glanced at Faith and vigorously nodded, "Yeah, I'm really happy. I missed grandma a lot!"

His voice was earnest, his eyes bright with joy when he looked at Faith. If it weren't for the discovery of him secretly taking unauthorized medication the night before, he probably would have leaped into Faith's arms.

After some small talk with Hiram, the doctor left.

Hiram's eyes followed Faith, and once the doctor was out of sight, he mustered the courage to walk over and take Faith's hand, his voice barely above a whisper, "Grandma, I missed you so much. Why didn't grandpa come with you?"

Faith glanced at me, unsure of how to respond. Ryan Whitmore, let alone her presence, was a complicated topic.

I quickly intervened, "Hiram, grandpa's been really busy, so grandma came by herself to check on you."

Hiram obediently responded, "I understand. I'm happy grandma came. Please tell grandpa I miss him a lot."

Unaware that he wasn't a blood relative of the Whitmores, Hiram felt a deep affection for Ryan and Faith. Faith, confronted with the child's affection, found herself at a loss, unable to reciprocate as naturally as before.

"Sure, I'll let him know," Faith managed a smile before hastily leaving the room, leaving behind a puzzled Hiram.

I followed her out, only to find Faith wiping tears in a secluded part of the hallway. Approaching her, I sighed softly, "Faith, are you okay?"

"I'm fine, just feeling a bit overwhelmed by fate," she replied, managing a bittersweet smile. "It's just... Hiram looks so much like Neil, as if they were cut from the same cloth. How could he not be Neil's son?"

"It's a strange world. Sometimes, people resemble each other without being related by blood," I answered.

"Does this mean the Whitmore legacy is doomed?" Faith's voice cracked with a mix of defiance and sorrow. The prospect of Whitmore Co. being left without an heir weighed heavily on her.
