Reborn, Reawakened, Rekindled novel Chapter 614

"You're overthinking this, Karina. I really don't have time to deal with your drama right now. There was no need for you to come all this way." My tone was indifferent as I stared at the woman before me. She was, in many ways, smarter than Bonnie. Unlike Bonnie, who would pathetically cling to Neil despite his coldness and rejection, or try to win over his other friends, Karina directed her efforts solely towards me.

As for Russel, he wasn't someone she had to deliberately charm. They had been on the same team for a long time.

Karina was livid. "Overthinking? Really, Irene? You're ruthless. First, you took Neil away from me, and now you're planning to do it again. And to top it off, you even want to take away my child. That's just malicious!"

She wasn't wrong. I did want to take Hiram away from her.

Considering she wasn't his biological mother and how cruelly she treated him, why should she be allowed to keep him and continue her abusive ways?

"Please don't disturb my dad, Nurse!" I didn't want to engage further with Karina and quickly called for a nurse nearby, "This person is disturbing the patient's rest. Could you please call security to escort her out?"

The nurse, familiar with both me and my father but not with Karina, nodded in agreement. "Miss, please leave. The patient needs to rest. If you refuse, I'll have to call security."

Karina's face turned from pale to flushed, clearly frustrated. But we were in a hospital, and she couldn't exactly wait around for security to kick her out. She gave me a chilling glance that sent shivers down my spine. It was a look that screamed she wished me dead.

Once Karina had left, I immediately contacted my lawyer. I had previously instructed him to keep an eye on Frank's case in Rosemont. Frank had been charged with attempted murder, but until he implicated Karina, I wasn't going to let it go.

"Mr. Sands, have you visited the place I mentioned before?" I asked over the phone.

"Ms. Finch, I've visited the location you mentioned. Frank indeed has an elderly mother suffering from dementia who often isn't lucid, an ex-wife with albinism, and a son, Alex, born with cleft lip and palate and finger deformities," Mr. Sands reported.

Before accompanying my dad for his surgery abroad, I had tasked my lawyer with investigating Frank at an address Russel had given me. However, due to being swamped with other matters, I hadn't been able to follow up in detail.

Karina's visit and the look she gave me made me feel like I'd seen a ghost in broad daylight. Neil's lawsuit for custody wasn't enough. I wouldn't feel safe unless Karina, like Bonnie, was behind bars.

Mr. Sands briefed me on the situation, and I had a rough idea of what to do next.

Frank must have been desperate for money to agree to Karina's murderous scheme, given his son's need for surgery, his mother's care requirements, and his ex-wife's incapability to meet these needs. I knew I had to meet Frank in person.

---

I drove back to Rosemont alone, telling no one.

After meeting Mr. Sands, he arranged for me to visit Frank in prison. As I waited, a familiar figure appeared, catching me off guard. "Russel, what are you doing here?"

Russel, a bit uneasy at first, soon regained his composure and whispered something to a man beside him before the man left.
