Reborn, Reawakened, Rekindled novel Chapter 670

My heart skipped a beat, and I immediately let go of Neil's hand, my eyes glued to his fingers, afraid of missing even the slightest movement.

Sure enough, his ring finger twitched again, like a butterfly fluttering its wings gently.

My heart was racing, nearly leaping out of my throat with euphoria, making me feel like my blood was rushing to my head. "Neil, are you waking up?"

Neil's eyes twitched but didn't open. I couldn't wait any longer, dropped his hand, and bolted to call for a doctor, dialing Faith on the way to share the news.

The doctor arrived and after examining Neil, confirmed that he showed signs of waking up, though he hadn't fully come around yet. We'd have to wait and see.

As the doctor left, Ryan and Faith rushed in, elated to hear about Neil's progress. They hovered around Neil, talking nonstop, hoping their voices would fully rouse him.

I tried to contain my excitement, quietly watching from the sidelines.

"Maybe you guys should head home," I suggested after a while. "I might have jumped the gun telling you so soon. It would've been better to wait until Neil was fully awake to avoid any possible disappointment."

"No way, we're staying right here," Faith insisted, pulling me aside. "Irene, you're the one who needs rest. You've been here day and night. What if you collapse when Neil finally wakes up?"

"Faith, I'm fine, really. Let's just wait it out together." I refused, my spirits buoyed by Neil's improvement.

Despite my protests, Faith relented, and the three of us kept vigil in the hospital room, waiting for Neil to wake up.

We barely slept that night, frequently checking on Neil until dawn broke and my drowsiness peaked, eventually succumbing to sleep.

Until Faith's excited shout, "Irene!" jolted me awake.

I rushed to Neil's side, instantly alert as our eyes met. I wanted to call out to him but found myself speechless.

"Mom, Dad..." Neil's voice was weak and hoarse as he looked at Ryan and Faith, his gaze unfocused.

"You're awake, that's all that matters!" they responded, joy evident in their voices.

Neil offered a faint smile, seemingly aware of his surroundings, then his gaze shifted to me, filled with a complex, pained expression.

I couldn't decipher his look and feared the worst: had Neil lost his memory?

Memory loss from head injuries was a real possibility, but the thought of it happening to Neil was unbearable. We had already been through so much; the thought of having to help him recover his memories was daunting.
