I became lost in my thoughts, and a wave of disappointment washed over me. The heaviness in my chest made it hard to catch my breath.
As the meeting ended and everyone else left, I remained seated and was staring blankly ahead. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself and reminding myself not to let the speculative thoughts take over.
"Evelyn."
I was startled by the low voice behind me. I turned quickly to find Ethan standing just behind me. His tall figure cast a shadow over me.
"Mr. Grayson…" I stammered. I quickly stood up and took a step back. "Is there something else you need?"
"Come with me," he said coldly and walked away without waiting for a response.
Feeling confused, I had no choice but to follow. Something about him felt off, though I couldn't quite place it. A growing unease settled in my chest as I followed him.
In silence, he led me into the elevator and pressed the button for the top floor.
"Mr. Grayson, where are we going?" My voice wavered slightly.
"To my office. We need to talk," he replied indifferently.
"Talk… about what?" Anxiety gripped me.
"You'll find out soon enough," he said. A faint, almost amused smile played on his lips. It reminded me of the person he used to be.
Before I knew it, we arrived at his office on the top floor. The space was immaculately designed. Its luxury was unspeakable.
