I shook my head, my face red with embarrassment.
I never thought Ethan would make such a request! It couldn't be more obvious that he was taking advantage of the situation!
"Mr. Grayson, please listen," I said, trying my best to look calm and not panic. "You're my superior, and I'm your subordinate. It would be bad if word got out that we stayed together. Besides, we have our respective lives to lead. I can't just stay at your home all the time."
Ethan laughed coldly. "It would be bad if word got out, huh? Evelyn, do you really mind what others say? Or are you just trying to avoid me?"
"I'm not!" I hastily denied it. "I just think that we need to keep some distance from each other. You're my boss, after all. We can't get too…"
My voice faltered as I hesitated. Ethan wasn't going to let this slip, though.
"What were you going to say?" He narrowed his eyes at me. "Evelyn, do you dislike me so much? Are you trying to get rid of me?"
"That's not it," I said, helpless. "Let me explain…"
I gestured frantically with my hand in a panic. I had no idea how we ended up in this situation. How did Ethan's behavior become so erratic? Why was he so persistent?
I subconsciously took a step backward to keep my distance from him. The next thing I knew, I was pushed, and my back was pressed against the wall.
"Ah!" I yelped, taken by surprise. Before I knew it, Ethan was right in front of me, and I was trapped between his chest and the wall.
He leaned in and whispered into my ear, "Evelyn, let me ask again. Are you really unwilling to stay? Or do you have other plans?"
As he spoke, he reached up to tilt my chin, forcing me to look right at him. At this moment, his deep-set eyes burned with a look I couldn't comprehend.
"M-Mr. Grayson, what are you doing?" I stammered as I stared at him, my eyes wide with panic and alarm. I struggled to free myself, but he was just too strong.
