“What are you doing here, Chloe?”
Chloe let out a soft chuckle. “Are you really questioning me about that? Of course, I am visiting my fiance,” she replied as she sat on the side of Helios’s desk.
Helios stopped tapping the keyboard and met Chloe’s gaze.
“We’re not yet engaged–”
“Yeah, because you’re prolonging it,” she interrupted. She raised her left hand and stared at her fingernails.
“Call off the engagement. I am not interested,” Helios said, but Chloe just laughed and tapped his table.
“I can’t do anything about that. Don Lincoln, your father, already set everything.”
Helios clenched his fist and moved his swivel chair backward. “I will talk to him.”
Chloe stood up and crossed her arms in front of her chest. “Try it if you can.”
“You knew that I love someone else–”
“But Zoe doesn’t love you, babe. But I do. She dumped you, right?”
Helios frowned. It seems like Chloe is different at this moment. She used to admire Zoe.
“Isn’t you wanted Zoe–”
“Yes, not until I find out that she’s the girl you were head over heels for.”
“I still love her. And no one can change that. I will talk to my father. And I’m sorry.”
Chloe smiled. “You can’t change your father’s decision, Helios. I also came here because the time you set for preparation is almost over. Almost a month had passed, Helios. The engagement will be on Friday. It will be done, no matter what you say. Also, your father told me that you can’t make any fuss that will harm your family.”
Helios pierced his eyes into Chloe. “I will never marry you, Chloe. If there’s only one girl that I wanted to marry… it’s Zoe.”
Chloe smirked. “But Zoe is not here. Also, if you disobey your father, you know what will happen. You don’t like Zoe to get harmed, do you?”
At that point, Helios didn’t like Chloe’s words, making him stand up, and was about to grab Chloe’s neck, but Chloe spoke.
“You can’t do that. What if I tell Zoe that you’re not the man whom she spent the night with?”
Helios tightened the clenching of his fists upon hearing it.
Chloe knew. Because she was there too… when that night happened.
They were childhood friends, Chloe, Icarus, and him.
“You can’t do that,” Helios said. His voice is stern and scary.
Chloe smirked. “I can. So, don’t try me.”
Helios scoffed. “I will kill–”
“Really?”
“Icarus is dead. So, don’t drag my twin’s name into the conversation. I love Zoe.”
“But it doesn’t change the fact that you hide your true identity.”
“It doesn’t matter; she will understand. I know her.”
Chloe cracked up. “You don’t know what it likes when someone you love… lies to you. Zoe loves you, and I can see that but knowing the truth–”
“Shut up, Chloe. And get out,” Helios cut off the hem of Chloe’s words.
…
“Are you sure about this, Zoe?” Cindy asked while they were filling up the cups and spoons on the counter.
Zoe shared her decision with Cindy.
“Are you ready for it?”
Zoe sighed. “I wouldn’t know unless I try Cindy.”
Cindy nodded. “Indeed. But you have to tell Grant first. And I’m glad that you already made your decision.”
Zoe smiled and put the box of tissue on the left side. “Yeah.”
“But still, prepare for the consequences, Zoe. It may be hard at first, especially now that Helios’s father is not in favor of you. Plus, in Helios's engagement, we don’t know if the old man will do something, just to tear you apart. Always be prepared for things like that. No matter what… I’m always here for you,” Cindy said, making Zoe smile.
Then suddenly, Zoe frowned when she saw how Cindy’s eyes widened.
‘What’s wrong?’ she thought.
Zoe then followed Cindy’s sight, and she frowned when she saw Grant Lincoln at the entrance.
“Speaking of the devil,” Cindy muttered.
“Hello, ladies–”
“What’s your perfume? I don’t like the smell. Stay away,” Zoe said all of a sudden, making Cindy and Grant stare at her with their lips slightly parted.
Cindy poked Zoe’s arm. “Are you for real?”
Zoe is still looking at Grant while her two fingers are pinching her nose. She suddenly hates Grant's perfume.
Grant laughed slightly. “It’s a hundred dollar worth of Dior perfume, and it’s gentle in every nose, even the sensitive one. What’s the drama all about, Zoe? I know you don’t want to see my handsome face–”
“Handsome, your ass. Stay a–” Zoe didn’t finish her words when suddenly she felt her stomach stumbled down. She dashed towards the bathroom and puked, but nothing was coming out.
Grant and Cindy looked at each other when they heard it since the bathroom was just a few meters away from where they were.
Cindy hates her idea, while Grant was just feeling curious.
Zoe continues to puke and blames Grant’s perfume inside her mind. And when she got out, Cindy stood in front of the door.
“Are you okay?”
Zoe nodded, but when she saw Grant looking at her, she covered her mouth and pointed at him. “Don’t let him get near me. Send him away, Cindy,” she said, making Cindy frown.
Cindy sighed, walked closer to Grant, and told him to get back some other time.
Grant waved his hand to Zoe, and after that, he left.
Cindy pulled Zoe into the corner since they only had a few customers.
“I know you hate the idea that Grant is here, but you don’t have to overreact, Zoe.”
Zoe’s forehead knitted. “I am not pulling a drama. I really hate the scent of his perfume,” she replied.
Cindy crossed her arms in front of her chest. “As far as my nose remembers Grant’s scent, it’s still the same, and you too knew about it. But why?”
Cindy doesn’t want to get directly to the point. She just wanted some supporting information.
Zoe shook her head. “I don’t know, but these past few days, I feel so tired even if I am just at the cafe. Also, I’m feeling too lazy to wake up every morning. I feel so drained and a little bit sensitive–”
“You’re pregnant, Zoe.”
Zoe’s eyes widened upon hearing it. “W-What? Impossible–”
“You have sex with Helios. Why wouldn’t it be impossible?”
“B-But–”
“Are you taking pills at those times? Where you fucked each other?”
Zoe’s heart started to thump fast while listening to Cindy’s questions.
“N-No.”
“Then you might be pregnant. Your symptoms are for preggy mommies. And to be sure of… you need a pregnancy kit to test if it’s positive.”
Hearing this, Zoe’s tears started to pour out of her eyes. “I… I am not ready–”
“Yes, you can. I’m here. Now, let’s buy the kit.”
Zoe doesn’t know what to think, but she’s not dumb too. The symptoms were there… even first-timers knew about it.
‘What if I’m pregnant? What will I do? Should I tell about it to Helios?’ she pondered.
