As he was about to leave, Donna wrote down once again. "If I die, you’ve gotta promise me that you'll take good care of Bri."
Isaac felt a sting in his heart as he read this. "Donna, you're gonna bounce back. Bri is my wife; I'll take care of her. Once you're better, Bri and I will take you home, alright?"
"No, you’ve gotta promise me." Donna insisted.
Isaac, unable to go against the old lady's wish, looked at her solemnly. "Donna, I promise you, I'll take good care of Bri."
Donna seemed content.
After Isaac left, Donna signaled the nurse to tear up the note. She watched as the nurse threw it away and only then was she satisfied.
As the sun set, the horizon seemed to be painted with a golden hue.
There was a hint of nostalgia in Donna's eyes, and after a long time, she slowly closed them.
Isaac left the ICU, opened the door, and saw Brittany sitting on the bench outside. She had been forced to rest the night before and looked much more energetic now.
"Zakky, how's Grandma?" Brittany got up and grabbed his hand, looking eager.
"She's better than before." Isaac knew she cared about Donna. He wrapped his arm around her waist and they sat on the bench. "I have some good news."
"What is it?"
"I've found a suitable kidney donor in H city. I'm heading there tonight. The kidney will be brought back here and Grandma will have the surgery immediately."
Brittany's eyes lit up. "Really?"
"Yes. The information confirms that this is the only suitable kidney."
Brittany's tense nerves relaxed and she seemed much more at ease. Her eyes welled up, and she covered her face, taking a moment before saying, "Zakky, thank you for finding the kidney."
"It's what I should do." Isaac said.
Brittany held his hand and her eyes were full of love. "Have you eaten before you leave tonight?"
"Not yet; I'll grab something at the airport."
"No way, I'm going home now to cook for you." Brittany was worried. How could he just grab something when he had a flight to catch?
"No need." Isaac held her hand. "You've been running around these past few days; just sit with me for a bit. I'll head to the airport later."
Having no choice, Brittany took him to a nearby restaurant and watched him eat before bidding him goodbye.
