After the nurse led Brittany to William's room, she pushed open the door saying, "You can only stay for a half-hour. Go in."

Brittany thanked her, took a deep breath, mustered up all her courage, and pushed open the door.

William was half-lying on the bed, holding a book, flipping through it leisurely.

He was wearing a large hospital gown, which made him look even weaker.

His face was pale, his lips tightly closed, his eyes deep but missing the gentleness of the past.

Brittany's gaze traveled from top to bottom, landing on the flat bed.

She had heard from the doctor both of his legs had been amputated.

Her eyes reddened instantly, and her courage collapsed in an instant.

"Bri, why are you here?"

William heard footsteps and thought his parents were coming, but he didn't expect it was Brittany.

He tried to sit up, closing the book in his hand, saying, "Why have you lost so much weight? Haven't you been eating well?"

Hearing his words, Brittany felt a heartache, and tears involuntarily streamed down.
