The Billionaire's Maid Bride novel Chapter 602

"Did you hear what happened? Hughes is in some serious trouble."

Abbey's voice trembled with shock as she spoke, her words echoing through their third-floor apartment.

Robbie was glued to his video game. "What?" he mumbled, not even bothering to look up. "What happened to him?"

"Were you awake last night? Did you hear any noise coming from downstairs?" Abbey clutched her chest, still shaken by the memory.

Robbie, a heavy sleeper, hadn't heard a thing.

But Abbey had woken up in the middle of the night. Clad in her pajamas, she'd knocked on Hughes's door only to be brusquely turned away. Unable to sleep, she tossed and turned for hours, eventually hearing sounds of commotion drifting up from below—crashing objects, shattering glass, and a cacophony of voices.

She figured it was just the neighbors throwing a wild party, so she shut her window and tried to block it out.

But when she ventured downstairs the next morning, the scene was a disaster.

Furniture overturned, broken bottles and glass littered the ground. And there was blood. The Blue Club's doors were shut tight, a "Closed" sign hanging ominously outside.

Seeing the chaos, Abbey was petrified. Her first thought was that some brawl had broken out. After asking around, she learned the gruesome truth: Hughes had been stabbed.

Robbie, still lost in his game, hadn't really heard her at first. Only non-committal grunts escaped his lips until Abbey yanked off his headset. "Hughes got stabbed in the wee hours!"

That's when it hit Robbie. "Stabbed? What the hell happened?"

Abbey shook her head, visibly scared. "Do you think... could it be related to you somehow?"
