The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 660

After Callum and Jayson started at their new school, Ronan got a surprising call from a teacher one day. Apparently, a kid in Jayson's class had lost a brand-new, shiny tumbler, and it was found under Jayson's blanket. The teacher didn’t accuse Jayson directly but asked Ronan to keep an eye on things.

At school, Callum, ever the protective big brother, was adamant that Jayson had nothing to do with the missing tumbler. He couldn't fathom how it ended up in Jayson's bed and made sure everyone knew it.

Ronan frowned, a hint of irritation crossing his face.

It was Cordelia who sat Jayson down and gently explained why taking things that weren't his was wrong. "If you want something, just tell Mommy and Daddy," she said softly. "We’ll get it for you. There's no need to take from others."

Jayson nodded, a mix of understanding and confusion on his face.

Cordelia had reluctantly accepted her role in Jayson's life. Once a child was part of the family, it became her responsibility, whether she liked it or not.

Suddenly, Cordelia remembered her missing pearl earrings. She was certain she had left them on her dresser, and the only other person in the room had been Ronan, who wouldn't have touched them. She decided not to confront Jayson but mentioned it to Ronan that evening.

"Really?" he asked, intrigued.

"Yes."

"It seems like his character might need some work," Ronan said, almost dismissively.

"It's not necessarily a character flaw. Maybe he's just young and doesn’t understand. Besides, Petra probably never taught him that, and I doubt she buys him much. I'll try to handle it," Cordelia said, determined.

Ronan's phone buzzed before he could respond. It was a message from Harold: "Mr. Evans, I have the day off the day after tomorrow. I'd like to visit my mother. Is that okay?"

Ronan replied with one word: "Good."

Then he turned to Cordelia, "Harold will be over the day after tomorrow to see his mom."

"He is?" Cordelia asked, her voice a bit uneasy at the thought of seeing Harold again.

"Yes. Ask the housekeeper to prepare lunch for the day after tomorrow. And invite your friend, too."
