Natalia's eyelashes fluttered twice before her eyes slowly opened, revealing a dim gaze as she looked up at the overjoyed Magnus, her voice tinged with despair. "Don't lie to me, I won't believe it."
"Oh no, darling, I'm not lying to you! Our boy, he's really come home!" Magnus' brows arched with excitement, his entire demeanor uplifted with joy.
Natalia eyed him, noticing the sincere lack of jest in his expression. She slowly sat up. "You're telling the truth?"
Magnus helped the worn Natalia to sit up, his voice filled with pain. "Yes, my love, he's back. He'll be here with us any moment now."
Natalia clutched Magnus' hand and was about to speak when she heard the voice of their son, Jonas, calling from the hallway, growing louder as he approached. "Mom? Mom, where are you?"
Natalia cried out, "Jonas!" and tumbled out of bed.
Magnus rushed to her aid. She hadn't eaten in days, and now, hearing Jonas' voice, she trembled with overwhelming emotion.
The door of the room swung open, and there stood Jonas, dew still fresh on his shoes. "Mom!" he cried, rushing to embrace Natalia, "Mom, I am back. I'm sorry for worrying you."
Natalia, hardly believing her eyes, felt tears that had long dried up now streaming down her face once more. She clung to Jonas' shirt, her face streaked with tears. "Jonas, you're really back. I've been so scared, scared that you wouldn't come home like your sister."
Jonas' voice wavered with emotion. He was still a child, after all. He held Natalia tightly. "Mom, I'm sorry. Don't worry, I won't be gone like my sister, and one day, I believe she'll come back, too."
Natalia looked at her son, gaunt and darkened by the sun, sobbing uncontrollably with relief that Jonas was finally home.
"Jonas, never leave me again, okay?" Natalia couldn't stop crying, and Jonas reached out his small hand to wipe away her tears.
He nodded firmly. "I won't leave. I'll always be with you, Mom."
Magnus joined them, embracing his wife and son, all shedding tears together.
When Richard arrived, he stood aside, his heart aching as he turned away. Paul had already been moved to tears. Such a touching scene was enough to make even the stoic weep.
After her bout of crying, Natalia tried to stand, only to black out and collapse. As Natalia slowly fell, Magnus and Jonas both exclaimed in unison, "Mom!" "Darling!"
Magnus quickly caught Natalia and laid her gently back on the bed, pressing the call button for the nurse.
Jonas’ heart was in his throat as he stammered, "Mom was fine just a moment ago. Why did she faint all of a sudden?"
Magnus held Natalia, his voice breaking. "Since you were gone, your mother hasn't eaten anything. She was holding on, waiting for you to return. If you hadn't come back, your mother..."
He couldn't finish. Jonas was consumed with guilt, realizing his mother's state was because of him. Thank god he had managed to return.
The doctor entered to find both father and son anxiously standing by Natalia's bed. After examining her, the doctor spoke softly, "Ms. Natalia fainted due to a rush of extreme emotions, compounded by days of malnutrition. She should recover with some rest and proper care."
