Ha, she’d been to hell and back, hadn’t she? What was there to fear now?
Since Magnus had pierced through her charade, Alice couldn't be bothered to keep up the act anymore. Gone was the facade of frailty. A fierce glint flashed in her eyes as she tried to shake off Magnus’ grip. "Let go!"
However, Magnus was clutching her wrist with a vice-like grip, nearly snapping it. Alice couldn't break free.
After failing to shake him off, Alice glared at him, her voice thick with anger. "If you don't want your precious darling to come to any harm, you'd better start treating me with some respect!"
A jolt of shock went through Magnus. She wasn’t his wife! If this woman had the guts to impersonate his spouse, then it meant Natalia was in danger. Without a second thought, he released Alice, his voice laced with urgency, "Where's my wife? What do you want? Who are you? Why are you pretending to be Natalia?"
"Ha, Magnus, with so many questions, which do you want me to answer first?" Seeing the sweat on Magnus' brow, Alice felt a mix of hatred and jealousy. Why did Natalia get all the good things in life? In what way was Alice inferior?
“No matter,” she thought darkly. “Everything Natalia has, I will take, and destroy.”
With a sinister gaze, Alice slowly peeled away the prosthetic mask from her face, revealing her true identity.
"Alice? It's you!" Magnus was astounded, not expecting the foolish woman he had once encountered at Rowell’s funeral to now be standing in his own home.
Alice sneered, "Magnus, you and Natalia really are a match made in heaven! So quick to look down on others. Yes, I am Alice, the true daughter of the Duke of Rowell!"
"Is that so?" Magnus quickly regained his composure, his tone unwavering. "Yet, I recall hearing that this “true daughter” was kicked out by the new Lord of the castle. I wonder what sort of misfortune has compelled you to target my wife. I’ve got one piece of advice of you. Turn back while you can. You don’t want to play with fire."
Alice's face turned crimson with rage as her secret was exposed. She glared at Magnus, her voice rising to a frenzied scream. "Shut up! No matter what, I am the legitimate heiress of McKinney Castle, and Natalia is nothing but a shameful bastard!"
Magnus looked at Alice coolly. "Quite the legitimate heiress, aren't you? Now, tell me your true intentions and where you've hidden my wife."
Alice's smirk was chilling. "Oh, Magnus, you're so much sharper than your dim-witted woman. Yes, I've tied up that idiot, Natalia!"
Before she could finish, Magnus had seized her throat and lifted her off the ground. His eyes blazed with murderous intent. "Bring my wife back unharmed, or I'll kill you!"
