Lea obediently affirmed.
As soon as Bertha opened the door, she spotted McNeil hesitating at the entrance, his steps abruptly halted.
Bertha looked at McNeil in surprise, then turned her gaze towards Marlinie on the hospital bed.
Marlinie was still covering her chest, trying to regulate her uncomfortable breathing. Realizing that her best friend's footsteps had stopped and not hearing the door close, she raised her eyes towards the entrance of the room, then her pupils suddenly contracted!
A man she hadn't seen in nearly twenty years suddenly appeared before her eyes, leaving both parties somewhat astounded.
After what seemed like a minute, Marlinie shifted her gaze away and coldly said to Bertha, "Bertha, close the door!"
Bertha snapped back to reality, casting a complex glance at McNeil before closing the door.
However, the door didn't shut successfully. It was blocked by McNeil's arm.
Despite blocking the door, McNeil seemed to realize how unwelcome he was. He spoke in a low voice, "Let me in; I want to see her."
Bertha was in a bind. She glanced back at Marlinie. Seeing her best friend still looking away, radiating a strong sense of rejection, she shook her head at McNeil.
"She doesn't want to see you. You should leave."
But McNeil still blocked the door, unwilling to move his hand. "I just want to see her."
Bertha was at a loss, knowing that attempting to close the door now would hurt McNeil's arm.
