Ellinor didn't believe her mother's professed disinterest and continued, “The Howard’s backyard is home to a particular flower, beautiful, rare, and difficult to cultivate. It's called the Moonlight.”
Hearing this, Marlinie's pupils contracted in shock, and she looked at Ellinor with astonishment. “What?”
Ellinor went on, “Mr. McNeil told me it was his late wife's favorite flower. Over the years, he's been spending most of his time tending to that garden, caring for those flowers. Even his current wife, he hardly pays her any attention. They live under the same roof but sleep in separate beds.”
Marlinie was shocked and puzzled at the same time, “Ellinor, why are you telling me all this?”
Ellinor replied, “No specific reason. I just wanted to share my observations of the Howard family. Oh, and Mr. McNeil never intended to marry his current wife. The two children they have were conceived through medical intervention.”
Marlinie's eyes trembled.
Conceived through medical intervention?
After sharing these details, Ellinor started eating her breakfast and didn't say anything more.
She didn't want to speak on behalf of the Howard family or her absent biological father. She was just stating what she knew.
She didn't want to bring it up with her mother, but after Bertha's suggestion, she hoped her mother could find peace in her later years.
After finishing breakfast and discussing some other matters, Ellinor picked up Baber to return to his hospital room.
It was time for the nurse to check on Baber.
