Ellinor chuckled lightly, "Well, Mr. Balfour, isn't 'Pearl' a word you can find in the dictionary too?" If it's in the dictionary, it's fair game for anyone to use. Why shouldn't I use it? Any word in the dictionary is up for grabs and no word is superior to another. And you…you've got no right to dictate which words I can or can't use! You didn't invent the alphabet, nor did the Howard family! Besides, I have no intention of having any dealings with the Howard family. If I wanted to mingle with high society, I'd choose the Blanchet family! From now on, do your best to steer clear of me and keep out of my business!"
After delivering this sharp retort, Ellinor linked arms with Theo, "Mr. Blanchet, let's go; I'm treating you to dinner! I spotted a decent-looking Japanese restaurant upstairs!"
Theo paused, frowning, "You're treating me?"
"Yep! I'm treating you with your money; got a problem with that?"
"Nope."
And with that, the two turned around naturally and stepped onto the escalator together.
Collin followed them at a careful distance, doing his best not to disturb them.
Balfour, who received a scolding from Ellinor, looked terribly upset. His usual composed demeanor faded away, revealing his anger with veins popping on his forehead.
Quinton was a bit worried. "Mr. Howard, Mrs. Blanchet is quite confrontational. She disrespected you just because she has the backing of the Blanchet family."
Balfour closed his eyes, took a deep breath to compose himself, and then glared at Byran, his voice stern, "We're going home!"
Byran lowered his head, his cheek still smarting from a slap.
Balfour had always been strict with him, but this was the first time he had slapped him. He felt wronged, but he bit back his words and followed Balfour home.
...
After everyone else had left, Julius came back to his senses and approached the three girls. "Candida Green, you saw it too; Byran is all show and no go. He turns into a scaredy-cat in front of Balfour!"
