The Kiss that Sparked it All novel Chapter 7

By the time Ellinor got changed, Theo had already left the room. She didn't give a hoot about where that man had gone. After all, they were just partners, with a partnership lasting only three months. Once the contract was up, it was every man for himself, and they'd be strangers again. She locked the door and hit the hay right away.

The next morning.

Ellinor was woken up by the racket from the maid of the Blanchet family knocking on the door.

"Mr. Blanchet asked me to bring you some clothes, Ellinor...."

What a nuisance.

Ellinor hadn't finished her beauty sleep yet, but in someone else's house, she had no choice but to get up and open the door. She took the dress the maid had brought her. After freshening up and changing her clothes, Ellinor stepped out of the room to find something to nibble on, only to get drenched by a bucket of cold, stinky water!

Laughter echoed around her.

Her vision was obscured by the dirty water. It wasn't until the water dripping down her head had dried up that she could make out the scene before her. In front of her stood a young girl around her age, all dolled up and stuck-up, smirking at her.

A few of the Blanchet family's maids were surrounding the girl. One of them was holding an empty bucket, the dirty water from which was apparently all over Ellinor now.

With a slight frown, Ellinor lifted her wet lashes and calmly looked at the strange girl, asking, "Who are you? Why did you drench me?"

Veronica Blanchet's thin lips that were painted with the latest lipstick, cracked open in a haughty manner, "I'm Veronica, the Blanchet family's Miss, and Theo is my brother!"

So, she was her sister-in-law.

Ellinor raised an eyebrow nonchalantly, "So why did you drench me?"

Veronica looked down on Ellinor with utter disdain in her eyes.

"That bucket of water was a warning for you to know your place! Don't think that just because you've married into our Blanchet family, you can actually be a Blanchet family woman. You don’t have the right!"

Ellinor frowned, "But I'm still your brother's wife, your sister-in-law. Is this how you treat me?"

Veronica sneered, "Sister-in-law? Don't flatter yourself. My brother didn't even sleep in your room last night. You spent your wedding night alone, and you dare call yourself my brother's wife? Let me tell you, my brother only married you to appease my grandfather's illness. Once my grandfather gets better, you'll have to leave our Blanchet family!"

So that's why that weird man was in such a rush to get married.

Veronica warned again, "Don't even think about clinging to my brother. There's no way he would fall for a woman like you! Apart from having the title, you're worthless in our Blanchet family. You’re not even as good as a maid! When my brother is not around, what I say goes and you have to follow my rules, got it?"

Ellinor nodded obediently, "Uh-huh, I got it."

Seeing Ellinor acting weak, Veronica was very satisfied. "At least you know your place. Better behave in the future! Let's go, I have a nail appointment today, the manicurist should be here any minute...."

Having said all that, Veronica was ready to leave with her maids.

"Hang on."

But Ellinor stopped her.

Veronica stopped in her tracks and looked at her impatiently, "What now? Is there anything else you want to say?"

Ellinor smiled, "No. I just wanted to ask Miss Blanchet. Since I just got married into the family, I'm not quite sure about the rules you mentioned. Could you please explain them to me in detail? This way, I can remember them and follow your rules."

Veronica was taken aback at first, then she sneered, "Women from poor families like yours sure know how to talk! Fine, since you asked, I'll tell you! Remember, from now on, you have to behave in this house...."

"Wait a minute...."

Ellinor looked earnest, "Miss Blanchet, my memory is not too great. I was hoping you could come into my room and explain things in detail. I'd like to take notes."

"What a pain!"

Veronica was a bit annoyed, but she didn't pass up the chance to lay down the law, so she followed Ellinor into the room. However, as soon as she stepped into the room, the door was closed. Her maids were locked out. They were stunned at first, then they heard Veronica's scream from inside and rushed to knock on the door.

"Miss... Miss... Are you okay?"

As soon as Veronica entered the room, her hair was grabbed by Ellinor and she was dragged into the bathroom.

She screamed in terror, "Ah! What... What are you doing? Let go of me!"

Ellinor held Veronica's hair with one hand and her hands with the other, asking, "Tell me, what was in the bucket you just dumped on me?"

Looking at Ellinor at this moment, Veronica couldn't help but shudder, "It... It was dirty water from cleaning fish in the kitchen!"

"Oh, is that so!"

Ellinor smiled, and the next second, she dunked Veronica's head into the toilet.

Veronica: "Ah…!"

After 30 seconds, Ellinor finally lifted her up, "How does it feel, Miss Blanchet?"

Veronica was pale, "You... You actually hit me! You...."

Ellinor looked unsympathetic, "You were the one who started it. I was just defending myself. You soaked me in waste water, and I let you taste the toilet water. Fair is fair."

Veronica was horrified, "Ah! I am the daughter of the Blanchet family. My brother loves me the most. How dare you treat me like this?"

Ellinor didn't care, "I don't care. Your brother brought me here to be his wife, not to be mistreated by your family. Remember this next time, and don't mess with me again!"

After saying that, she dunked Veronica's head into the toilet once again, then dismissively shook her hand off.

Veronica lifted her head, gasping for air, on the verge of crying from the nausea.

She'd never been humiliated like this before. Leaning over the toilet, she dry heaved for a bit before grinding her teeth and saying, "Ellinor, you... you just wait and see! I'll make sure my brother divorces you!"

Ellinor smirked, "Oh really? That's great, I'll have to thank Ms. Blanchet for the help then!"

Seeing that Ellinor wasn't worried or scared at all, Veronica felt like she was punching cotton and felt utterly dejected.

Ellinor then dragged Veronica up, and threw her out of the room.

Rushing to take off her dirty clothes, Ellinor headed to the bathroom for a shower.

She had no clothes to wear, so she came out wrapped in a towel, just in time to see her cell phone flashing on the bedside table.

Walking over, she picked up the call.

Her coworker Gemma sounded very urgent, "Ellinor, there's a big problem! You need to get to the company ASAP!"
