Elaine could have never imagined that Jacob, who had been doing nothing for most of his life, would suddenly strike a pot of gold when he got older.
Elaine kept mocking Jacob’s useless position as the vice president for the Calligraphy and Painting Association. Secretly, however, she knew that the position held a certain weight to it.
The higher management of such cultural associations were usually cultural and influential people. On top of that, the city leaders respected them.
However, Elaine had been tyrannical with Jacob all her life. She couldn't let Jacob overshadow her with his new achievements, so she deliberately piled more and more ridicule on him to bring him down.
Jacob was very displeased with Elaine's ridicule, and wanted to refute her. Her scathing remark about him being a good-for-nothing who was just there to make u p the numbers hit him hard. It stirred his sheer pettiness and deep-seated sensitive feelings of inferiority.
He had felt the same as he was in front of Yolden earlier.
He was clear about how he had no real ability.
Although he finally became the vice president of his association, he was still a good-for-nothing.
Having Elaine speak to him so sarcastically only served to hurt his pride even more. He immediately rebuked her, "Do you think I'm doing nothing as a vice president? As the vice president, I can broaden my horizons and also strengthen my connections!"
He continued bragging, "By the way, I got to know an overseas Oskian who had just returned to the country today. She's an extremely rich young lady! She donated some works of art worth ten million dollars to our association, and even agreed to sponsor fifty million dollars for us to hold a local art exhibition. A strong contact and network like this may be of great use in the future!"
Elaine's mouth twitched in dissatisfaction. She berated him, "Why are you bragging? Did you just claim that someone came and donated a hundred million dollars to your association? Why would anyone do that for no reason?"
Jacob blurted out, "What do you know? There are plenty of insanely rich people in the world. Many rich men go around the world to donate for charity and do sponsorship. What's the big deal when one donates some money to a cultural association?"
