Kingsley's eyes gaped. "Carson Todd is…"
"Carson Todd is the current head of the renowned medical family, the Todds, and we were close when we were young," Hubert said, recalling the past. "Young and reckless, we made a small bet one day when we were bored. In the end, he lost to me by a move, but we didn't make any actual bet back then. So, he wrote this note for me and promised that he'll do a favor for anyone who comes to him with this note and won't turn them away." Then, he chuckled and added, "Initially, I planned to give it to Andrew, thinking that he could ask Carson for help if he runs into any difficulties he can't handle in the future, but I have changed my mind now and decided to give it to you as thanks for saving my life."
Kingsley was a little touched at his words. In the traditional medical community, the senior of the Todd Family was a powerful figure, equivalent to Henrich's status in the underworld. Many could only dream of receiving aid from Carson even once. Honestly, the gift Hubert bestowed upon him was far too precious.
Nonetheless, Kingsley gingerly kept the paper away. "Thank you for your kindness, Old Mr. Kean."
"I should be the one to thank you." The look on Hubert's face was kind and warm. "Furthermore, this may be more useful to you since you have such a deep knowledge of traditional medicine," he said and rose to his feet. "Alright, Dr. Nicholson. I've recovered and won't hold you up any longer because I have to teach Stanley and Andrew a lesson. Or else, the companies of the Kean Family will be ruined in their hands in a matter of time."
As Kingsley was uninterested in interfering with someone else's family affairs, he stood up as well. "Then, I'll be taking my leave."
Yet, he had just stepped out of the study when the Keans, who were assembled outside the room, surrounded him and bombarded him with questions, "What's going on, Dr. Nicholson?"
"Is he in a good mood? If he's going to lose his temper, then I'm going to leave right now!"
Andrew awkwardly scratched his nose as he inquired, "Dr. Nicholson, is my grandfather… still mad?"
As soon as he asked this question, everyone, including Stanley, pricked their ears, but Kingsley merely took a glance at them. "Old Mr. Kean said that he's going to teach you guys a lesson."
A hush fell over them upon hearing Kingsley's reply. After that, the Keans started to come up with various excuses. "Oh my, I still have a lot of unfinished work in the company. Since the old master is fine, it's time for me to go."
"Yeah, I left my stew cooking on the stove at home, and no one is watching it for me. I'll get going then..."
All of them were afraid of Hubert's unpredictable mood swings and were ready to flee upon hearing that he was still furious. Meanwhile, looks of dismay washed over Stanley and Andrew's faces—this was their home, and they had nowhere to run.
Kingsley couldn't be bothered with them. So, he walked past them and headed toward the doors. Xaria, who had been watching silently from the sidelines the whole time, approached him, walking next to him. "Dr. Nicholson, I'm truly amazed by your incredible medical skills."
Kingsley stopped in his tracks and said, "Miss Heart, I've fulfilled my promise and helped you to treat Old Mr. Kean. Isn't it your turn to help me out now? Do you have time to have a meal with me? I have a few questions to ask you."
This woman first tried to seduce him at Jadeland Heights and became friends with Victoria afterward, so he always felt that there was something suspicious about her. There was no doubt that she had ulterior motives. Hence, he wanted to use this chance to have a good talk with her and find out just who she was or even better, who she was working with.
