Lawrence looked old.
He looked so much older than the last time she saw him. He appeared at least ten years older but he didn't look tired or worn out at all.
On the contrary, he looked sturdier than before. He seemed to be in good spirits and seemed to have a good state of mind.
Lawrence approached Grace and Alice. His lips parted and he said, "Grace, I didn't know that today is yours and Heinz's wedding day. Only when I arrived was I told that you all are holding a wedding."
It turned out that he didn't know that it was their wedding day. It was all just a coincidence.
Perhaps this was fate.
Grace had gone through a turmoil of emotions over the years. The anger and blame she once had towards Lawrence had gradually decreased. Now, she was able to face him with a calm composure.
It seemed that ever since her mother, Candace, passed away, her attitude had changed.
Since then, whenever she met Lawrence, she was calm and composed.
There was no resentment or anger, only calmness.
Staring at him, she parted her lips and said, "Well, since you are here, do come in for a meal. Everyone is here."
Lawrence was taken aback. He was a little speechless.
A flash of weariness crossed his gaze. Perhaps it was due to the events in the past, but he had finally realized that he was in the wrong and had started feeling sorry towards Grace and Heinz. Furthermore, perhaps it was due to guilt, but he didn't have the guts to face them.
Therefore, when Grace suggested for him to stay and have a meal, he was visibly shocked and awkward.
Not only was he stunned, so was the butler. The butler turned and stared at Grace.
"No, thank you," Lawrence said as he came to his senses. He stared at Grace and shook his head, "I won't be staying for the meal. Today is such a wonderful day, I wouldn't want to ruin it. I am very well aware that Heinz is still mad at me."
As he spoke, a trace of embarrassment flashed across his eyes. Being hated by his own son was
a father's failure and embarrassment.
He was too ashamed.
"Grace, I'll give you my blessings. I hope that both of you can live happily ever after," Lawrence let out a smile and continued, "Please take care of Heinz and Lowell well for me in the future."
After that, he turned around and left.
Immediately, Grace called out, "Wait! Please stay and have a meal! Although Heinz didn't invite you to the wedding, I am certain that he has already forgiven you. Let's not hold on to the past. It's just that he can't take the first step to reconcile with you. Therefore, you should take the initiative. Come, stay for a meal. I'm the one inviting you, therefore he will not ask you to leave."
Lawrence stood frozen in place. He was touched by her words.
He turned slightly and gazed at her. He looked both grateful and slightly excited as he said, "Grace, do you really mean it? Do you really want me to stay and dine with you all?"
She smiled faintly, "Yes."
