Maria and Leah spent the rest of the day indulging themselves. The two girls did not glimpse at their phones at all.
Shopping was like therapy for them. After they were done, they found another restaurant to have supper. After they were officially seated, they turned to look at each other.
Leah asked Maria, "Do you want to head back now?"
Maria snapped back to her senses and took out her mobile phone. She saw that she had received dozens of missed calls.
She froze for a moment and groaned, "Oh no, both Ernest and Liam have called me so many times. Check your phone too. How many calls did you get?"
Leah suddenly realized that it had been a long while since she last looked at her phone. Her phone was still in silent mode.
She hurriedly took out her phone and was shocked to see that she had dozens of missed calls.
She showed Maria her phone and sighed, "Look, I
have dozens of missed calls from Liam and Ernest as well. Oh, there are also some calls from home as well."
Maria stuck out her tongue, "I didn't think they would call us so many times. Let's head back now. If we loiter too long, it'll look like we've done it on purpose."
"Yes, I agree. So, how do you feel? Are you feeling better now?" Leah asked.
Maria pursed her lips and replied, "I'm still a little upset. I always do whenever I think about it. Even though I've long known about this matter, I find it a little difficult to breathe whenever I recall him saying that he likes Celeste."
Anyone would get upset if they were in the same situation as Maria.
Leah thought for a moment and suggested, "Well, we've spent quite some time clearing our mind, and we've already vented our emotions out to each other as well. I think we're ready to head back and face the music, don't you think?"
"But I think if we act as if nothing happened, they'll surely think that something's off. What should we do when they start asking questions?" Maria was still a little scared by the idea of heading back. She had to admit that whenever she was faced with Liam, she would become extremely timid.
She loved him too much.
"We'll figure it out when we get to it, alright? They've already admitted that they like Celeste, so I suppose we should be honest and admit that we're jealous and angry at them for it. I think it's best to be frank with them. It's not like there's a reason to hide," Leah said frankly.
Maria laughed when she heard this, "Leah, you're really awesome. You always manage to say what I can't."
"Thanks for the praise," Leah chuckled, "If they still like Celeste, it's fair for us to be angry at them, don't you think? Otherwise, it would be too unfair. We have the right to be angry at them."
Maria liked Leah's attitude. The thoughts Leah had were the same ones she had as well.
"Yes, I completely agree. We do have the right to be angry. But I can also choose not to break up with him because I still love him. I can still love him even if I'm angry at him."
Maria felt a little embarrassed after she finished speaking.
Leah could not hold back her laughter any longer. She looked at Maria and giggled, "You're getting bolder and bolder by the day, aren't you? That's what I like to see! You can fancy him all you want since no one's stopping you."
"Aren't you in love with Ernest? Will you really break up with him in anger?"
"Of course I won't. I'm angry at him because of his attitude, not because of the fact that he likes Celeste. I'm angry at him because as soon as I mention Celeste, his face instantly darkens! This attitude of his is pretty hurtful. He acts like Celeste is his weakness. I can't even mention her in front of him."
That was what hurt her most.
Maria looked a little absent- minded as she muttered, "I thought that Liam didn't like Celeste anymore. I thought he would eventually come to like me after spending so much time with me. After all, Celeste and Gary has stayed here together for some time already."
"Everything was alright for a long while. But whenever I think about him admitting to still liking Celeste in front of Ernest before, I just can't help myself from getting upset," Maria added.
"But I suppose I've spent enough time licking my own wounds. I have to head back and try my best to change Liam's mind. I'm sure that he'll cave eventually. He'll learn to care for me more than he does for Celeste in the future. I have plenty of time to do that. Four years ago, I once thought that there was no hope for me and Liam to be together, but look at us now! We've become a couple against all odds." "There are miracles everywhere in life. If I can turn him into my boyfriend. What else can't I do?"
"That's the Maria I know!" Leah stood up and announced, "Let's go, then. We'll head back and continue to change their minds. We'll act as if nothing had happened, alright? We'll just have to face the situation head on."
"Let's go! I'm sure we'll be able to get through this," Maria stood up as well.
They reached home an hour later.
When they walked into the house, the atmosphere felt strange. The place was too quiet, as if no one was around.
Pin drop silence filled the room.
Maria and Leah looked at each other, puzzled.
