Amelia woke up very early to prepare breakfast for James. She wanted him to eat and take lunch with him to the office.
While he was in the bathroom, she stood up, picked up her phone and hurried to the kitchen to prepare pancakes before he could stop her.
Since the news about her pregnancy, James had stopped her from doing virtually everything. It was so bad that he even helped her in the bathroom sometimes.
Amelia often complained to him that he would end up spoiling her, but he didn’t mind. He just wanted his baby and wife to be healthy and fine.
Amelia was done with the pancakes before James stepped out of the room. She began to set the table in no time.
“Amelia.” James called, hurrying out of the room and he caught her setting the dining table.
“Hello, love. Good morning.” She responded with a bright smile to bribe him from complaining about making breakfast for him.
“Amelia…” He called in a low tone and walked to the dining table. “I told you not to stress yourself.” He added, and she pouted.
“Stop spoiling me, James. I’m not sick. I’m just weeks pregnant. I can still doing some things. I’m perfectly okay.”
“I know, but…”
“Shhh!!!” She stopped him from talking, leaned closer and placed her finger on his lips.
“Stop talking and dig in. You’ll be late for work.”
James heaved a sigh and reluctantly nodded. He looked at her face again and smiled. “Thank you for the meal. It smells so good.”
“Trust me when I say it tastes even better.”
“I trust you.” He responded and sat on the chair. He dug in shortly, and Amelia sat next to him, watching him as he ate.
“Hmmmm… this is so tasty. I’m so lucky to have you.” He moaned with his mouth filled with pancake, making Amelia chuckle.
“I’m lucky to have you too.” She picked up his hand and planted a kiss at the back of it. He smiled and continued eating.
“Have you heard from Nicholas?” James asked as he munched.
“Not yet.” She muttered. “I’m so eager to know more about them.” She added.
James also held her hand and smiled. “Hey, don’t worry. Nicholas is competent. He would tell you everything. We just have to be patient with him.”
“Hmmm.” She bobbed and let out a faint smile too.
“And have you spoken to Uncle Freddie yet?” He asked, and she shook her head.
“Not yet. He hasn’t contacted me either.”
“He is guilty and wants to make amends but he is scared.”
“How do you know?”
“He has been talking to me. He wants to know if you have forgiven him. I keep telling him to give you more time, but I think you should talk to him already. It’s been weeks:”
“I know, James.”
“Remember he was there when your parents weren’t. Even though his children were assholes, he still tried to make you happy. Please give him a chance.”
Amelia lowered her head and slowly bobbed. Guilty overwhelmed her as she felt she shouldn’t have ignored him for so long.
‘He didn’t have a choice but to keep it from me since my real parents weren’t even ready to take me in. He wasn’t at fault.’ She thought.
“You’ll talk to him, right?” James inquired.
“Yes, I will.” She responded, and he let out a wide smile.
“Finally. Thank you so much, Amelia. I’m finally free from his endless texts.” He uttered, and they both giggled.
“I know he loves me.”
“He does. I’ll tell him to pay you a visit today. You two will have enough time to talk.”
“Yes. Thank you.”
Suddenly, Amelia’s phone began to ring, cutting off their conversation. They both looked at the phone and saw it was Fred calling.
James felt anger rise in him without warning. He clenched his jaws and looked away, diverting his rising anger on the fork he held.
Amelia noticed the look on James’ face and chuckled. It’s been a while since she saw him so jealous.
She answered the phone and put her phone on speaker. She kept her eyes on James as she waited to hear Fred speak.
“Hi, Amelia.” Fred said.
James raised his head and looked at Amelia. He wasn’t expecting her to put the phone on speaker.
“Hi, Fred.” She answered.
“It’s been so long. How are you doing?”
“I’m doing very well. And you?”
“I’m very well too, thank you. You stopped replying to my texts, and you stopped contacting me too. Are you sure you are okay?”
“Oh yes. I have been so busy with work and my husband. I didn’t mean to ignore you.”
James’ face lit up at the mention of “husband”. He didn’t know why he felt so proud hearing her talk like that.
“Really? I’m so happy for you then. Just wanted to check on you as a friend. Would you like to hang out when you're less busy?”
James looked up all of a sudden, and Amelia clasped her lips as she almost burst into laughter.
“I’m so sorry, Fred. I really can’t. Thank you for having me in mind though.”
“Anytime. Take good care of yourself then. And don’t hesitate to contact me if anything happens.”
“Alright. Thank you so much. Bye.”
Amelia hung up and broke into laughter almost immediately. “You needed to have seen your face when he asked to take me out.”
“Why would he even say that? You are married for crying out loud!”
“Yes, I am, and that is why I turned him down. You’re so cute when jealous.” She pulled his cheek softly, and he pouted.
“I’m done.” He uttered and stood up.
“Baby, C’mon, are you mad at me for laughing?” She mumbled.
“Of course not. But I’m running late already.”
Amelia smiled and wrapped her hands around his neck. She stared at his lips and kissed him.
“Make sure you come back early today.” She whispered and moved her mouth to his ear. “I want you to make love to me tonight.”
