Under immense family pressure, the handsomely wealthy Louis Herbart succumbed to marriage. Following the wedding, a curious friend remarked, "Your wife must be incredibly beautiful. You're so fortunate!" Louis's mind wandered to his wife, whose appearance was marred by such extreme ugliness that she had to conceal it even while sleeping, using a mask. In response, he retorted, "Get lost! Speak another word, and I'll marry her off to you."
As time passed and they lived intimately together, Louis's wife eventually packed her bags and proclaimed her desire for a divorce. "Louis, you have humiliated and insulted me. You hold me in contempt," she declared. Stunned, Louis hastily reached out to his wife, desperately begging for her forgiveness. "My dearest wife, I cherish and adore you. I am willing to give up my life for you."
