Derek couldn't get through to Rosalind on the phone.
Frowning, he put his phone down and said in confusion, "Why can't I reach her?"
Chad was lounging on the couch. He set down his remote and asked, "Are you trying to call Mom? Didn't she go to Josephine's? Maybe try calling Mr. Albert?"
Derek replied with a stern face, "You call him."
Chad was a bit puzzled. From the look on his father's face, anyone would think there was some kind of beef between him and Albert!
Flossie whispered to her husband, "At Eileen's birthday party last month, she didn't say a word to her dad, but she was chatting up with Albert. That pissed off dad and he hasn't talked to Albert for a month."
Chad hadn't expected that. He gave a helpless laugh and said, "That's no biggie. Eileen did talk to me that day. It's just that she didn't talk to you guys."
Derek and Flossie didn't say anything.
Chad dialed Albert's number. After a few words, he hung up and said in confusion, "Mom is indeed at Albert's, but his tone was kinda off."
Derek asked coldly, "What did he say?"
Chad said, "Albert said to hide the marriage certificate and information and material well. He also mentioned that you need information and material to get a divorce. No certificate, no divorce. It's really weird. Who's getting a divorce? Are Mr. Albert and Josephine having trouble?"
Derek snorted and immediately said with a smug grin, "He deserves it."
Just then, Sonia came over from the dining room, phone in hand, and said, "Dad, Egbert just called me."
Everyone in the living room looked at her.
Sonia said, "Egbert asked us to send someone to pick up Mom and Isabel. He said he doesn't want to entertain them anymore."
At ten in the morning, Egbert drove Eileen home to get some pajamas.
On the way, Eileen looked at Egbert's arm and said, "Maybe I should be driving. Your injury isn't fully healed yet."
Egbert turned the steering wheel and glanced at her. "So you do remember I got injured."
Eileen frowned. "What are you getting at?"
Egbert said, "I changed the bandages myself this morning."
Eileen stared at Egbert's profile for a moment, then nodded and said, "Okay, since you can change your own bandages, don't ask me to do it anymore."
Egbert was speechless. That was not his purpose!
Half an hour later, they arrived at Eileen's apartment.
Eileen grabbed a few clothes, then turned to Egbert and asked, "How long do I need to stay at your place? I don't need to bring too many clothes, do I?"
Egbert raised an eyebrow. "Can't wait to leave?"
Eileen said, "Albert and Josephine are great, but..."
Egbert asked, "But what? But I'm not great?"
Eileen glared at him and immediately said, "Yes, you're not great!"
Egbert sat on the couch, a wounded look on his face. "I'm not great enough, so you're not planning to take care of my gunshot wound anymore?"
Eileen said, "Quit playing! I'm an actress too, so I can tell when you're acting! This morning when I hit you, you moved quite agilely! Plus, you can change your own bandages!"
Egbert said softly, "I want you to do it."
Eileen ignored him.
She pulled out two more pieces of underwear from the closet and put them on the bed.
Egbert paused, his eyes flickering at the sight of the underwear.
Then he turned his head away and didn't look again.
Eileen only packed four or five items of clothing. She was still considering when to leave Egbert's place, as she didn't like staying at other people's houses for too long.
