Defying Fate: The Unstoppable Eileen novel Chapter 229

Eileen was taken aback by Ophelia's words. A reality show about fake marriages?

Her gaze inadvertently drifted towards Egbert, and when she looked over, she found Egbert was also looking at her.

His deep eyes fixed on her, as if pondering something.

Eileen felt a knot in her stomach, a bad feeling creeping up.

Without thinking twice, she immediately told Ophelia, "No, I'm not doing the show."

Ophelia, on the other end of the phone, was clearly surprised.

Egbert looked at her, equally taken aback.

The atmosphere in the car became a little awkward.

After a moment, Ophelia said, "Actually, I was also afraid you'd say yes. Even though the marriage is fake, you would still have to act with a partner during filming. I don't want you going down that road, attracting fans through publicity stunts. It's better to be known for your skills and work."

Eileen responded with a grunt, clearly uncomfortable.

Ophelia added, "Alright then, I'll help you look for something else. I'll get back to you later."

After hanging up, they were at a red light.

Eileen stopped the car, hesitated for a moment, and finally couldn't help but sneak a glance at Egbert.

But as soon as she turned her head, she found Egbert still looking at her.

Eileen jumped, and immediately complained, "Why are you staring at me all the time?"

Egbert just chuckled, and asked helplessly, "Can't I even look at you now?"

After a while, Eileen didn't say anything more and just drove off.

Half an hour later, they arrived home.

As soon as Eileen walked in the door, she noticed that Rosalind and Isabel were both gone.

Josephine was in the living room looking at documents on her computer. Seeing them return, she took off her glasses and waved Eileen over, "Eileen, come here."

Eileen trotted over and sat next to Josephine.

Josephine took Eileen's hand and put it on her own knee, "Your mom had to go take care of something. She said she'll try to sneak out and see you in a few days. If you miss her, you can also call her."

Eileen obediently nodded. Josephine couldn't resist and gently touched Eileen's face.

With Rosalind not around, she could freely touch Eileen's face!

After a while, Josephine finally let go of Eileen's face and said with a smile, "You should consider this place as your own home. If you need anything, just ask Egbert."

Saying this, Josephine deliberately glanced at Egbert, who was drinking water in the dining room.

Then she whispered to Eileen, "I also want to thank you. Egbert doesn't usually come home. I hardly see him all year. But because you're here, he decided to stay. You have no idea how happy his father and I are, even though we don't say it. Did you notice his father didn't go back to the military base today?"

Eileen chuckled.

Josephine continued, "So, feel free to stay. Don't feel pressured. We're your family, okay?"

Eileen lightly bit her lip, then nodded, "As long as you don't find me bothersome."

Josephine immediately responded, "How come? I really like you."

Eileen touched her face, a bit shy to respond.

After a while, Eileen went upstairs to sort out her clothes.

Josephine called her son over.

Egbert was somewhat rebellious now, and came over with a straight face.

Josephine immediately asked him, "Why the long face?"

Egbert didn't answer, just sat in the single sofa across from her.

Josephine, a bit annoyed, said, "I'm giving you a mission. Spend more time with Eileen, make her feel more at home."

Egbert didn't respond.

Josephine, frustrated, threw an apple at him, "I'm talking to you, are you listening?"

Egbert caught the apple and merely said, "Uh huh."

Josephine frowned and continued, "I don't believe you haven't noticed. Since Eileen came to our house, she's been very restrained. I've seen her show, she's a vivacious, intelligent girl. But since coming here, she's been uneasy. She even cooks... Of course, it's good that she's sensible, but she's too careful. It pains us to see her like this."

Egbert looked at his mother.

Josephine said, "So, you need to take care of her, guide her. I don't want her to be so polite and obedient. I want her to be lively, like a real twenty-year-old. Do you understand?"
