Defying Fate: The Unstoppable Eileen novel Chapter 344

Eileen got the call from Galen the next day.

Galen made a point to discuss yesterday's matter.

"Indeed, the premiere is fast approaching. Even if Egbert hadn't reached out, we were about to make an official announcement anyway. After all, regardless of whether it gets released domestically, it's going international. We're aiming for the major international film festivals later this year. We need to have the movie out by June at the latest."

Eileen nodded, then asked, "So, what do I need to do?"

"Just cooperate with the promotions," Galen replied. "We've got a roadshow in twelve countries to cover. I know you're currently shooting 'Feathers of Fate', but that's fine. I've got your director Carrol's WhatsApp. I've already spoken to him. He said your scenes could wrap up by early June. Once you're done, just come over; we'll be just starting."

Eileen listened but hesitated for a moment, "Galen, I can come over after I wrap up in early June, but I might not be able to stay for the whole tour. I need to free up my schedule from July 20th to August 20th."

Galen asked, "What's up?"

Eileen said, "Big stuff."

Galen was puzzled, "What big stuff?"

Eileen revealed, "College applications!"

Galen: "…"

Eileen pressed on, "Galen, I've never been to college. You wouldn't stop me from applying, would you? You're not that kind of person, right?"

Galen: "…………"

Eventually, Galen agreed to let Eileen take leave when the time came.

Afterward, Eileen threw herself into shooting 'Feathers of Fate'.

But conditions were harsh, and the weather was not on their side, making it impossible to shoot.

After yet another retreat driven by the forest's relentless mosquitoes, director Carrol adopted a laissez-faire attitude.

At noon, under the blazing sun, director Carrol sat in the courtyard of a local home like an elder at the village square, fanning himself with a large hand fan, legs crossed, gazing at the distant trees.

Suddenly, the assistant director called out, "Director, Alva and the team are back."

Director Carrol turned his head, barely managing to sit up upon seeing the two weary logistics staff members, and asked, "Did you get the mosquito repellent?"

Both staff members, parched and gasping, replied, "We did. Bought every brand in town, but none seem effective."

Director Carrol was puzzled, "Why aren't they working?"

One of the staff explained, "We told the pharmacy about those giant mosquitoes that leave welts with a single bite, asking if the repellents would work. They said regular repellents aren't much use against those giant forest mosquitoes. Advised us to stay indoors as much as possible and make sure windows are screened."

Director Carrol was speechless, "We've got outdoor scenes to shoot. How can we just stay indoors?"

Without another word, the staff laid out all the repellents they had bought.

Director Carrol pointed at an employee, "Take these to the forest and test them."

The chosen employee felt like the unluckiest guy.

But, he dutifully took the repellents to the forest for testing.

An hour later, he returned in a jeep, his clean appearance replaced by a face covered with seven or eight welts and several more on his hands.

The employee exclaimed in frustration, "Anti-mosquito champion! Are you guys pranking me? I attract more mosquitoes with this stuff than without!"

Director Carrol: "…"

The logistics staff: "…"

Director Carrol then resumed his seat, fanning himself, and pondered, "What do we do now?"

After a while, he suddenly asked, "Where's Eileen?"

The assistant director had had enough!

He yelled, "Always Eileen! You want Eileen for catching snakes, for a broken camera, when the rabbits ignore you, when a bench leg breaks, when you can't find sunscreen, when you can't harvest honey, when you lose a hair tie, and now for mosquitoes! What will you do if she leaves?!"

Director Carrol looked at him, puzzled, then asked, "So, what do we do?"

The assistant director, frustrated, shouted into the house, "Ms. Lopez, Director Carrol needs you!"

Eileen came out to a barrage of complaints about the ineffective mosquito repellent.

Eileen: "…"

With an expressionless face, she asked, "So?"

Director Carrol, unabashed, said, "Think of something."

Eileen asked, "What can I do?"

Director Carrol shrugged, "I'm out of ideas."
