Agnes fell into a thoughtful silence. She and Elton had been each other's first love, a profound and innocent affection that lasted a decade. They were as close as family. Before that betrayal, Agnes had never doubted that she would one day become Elton's bride.
Seeing Agnes's expression, Jared gently took her hand, "I'm just teasing you, babe. The past is the past. Besides, I should thank Elton, right? Without him messing up, how would I have landed such a beautiful and adorable wife?"
A warm feeling spread through Agnes's heart. "What should we do now?"
Jared thought for a moment, "What do you feel like doing?"
"Let's go shopping and catch a movie," she suggested.
Jared agreed with a nod. It had been a while since they had a day out shopping and watching a movie together.
At the mall, Agnes spotted a pair of matching sweaters in a shop window and bought them on the spot. Dressed in their new sweaters, they headed to the movies. At the theater, Agnes loaded up on a giant tub of popcorn and an assortment of snacks.
Jared teased her, "You do know we're here to watch a movie, not dine at a restaurant, right?"
Agnes replied, "It's all about the movie-watching experience. I've always wanted to try it out like the leading ladies in those Western dramas."
Jared just smiled at her indulgently.
Unfortunately, the movie was incredibly dull, and Agnes found herself nodding off. Jared gently let her head rest on his shoulder, where she fell asleep.
When she woke up, the theater was empty, and the screen was dark; the movie had long ended.
Sitting up quickly, Agnes exclaimed, "How did I fall asleep? Why didn't you wake me?"
