Daphne choked on her coffee and almost coughed it out.
"What did you say?" She set the cup on the table and looked at Raphael incredulously.
Raphael answered quickly, "I said, shall we talk about our marriage?"
"Marriage?" Daphne's eyes widened in shock to learn that she had not heard wrongly.
Raphael smiled slightly upon seeing her show of emotions. "Yes, that's right. Our marriage."
He held her gaze with elegance, which he was born with.
"You're single, and I'm not a hypocrite like you thought. I have neither a lover nor an illegitimate daughter. So, can we have a serious conversation about marriage?"
Daphne could not wrap her head around his suggestions.
Raphael was right because she did misunderstand him. However, why wasn't he taunting her but asking to talk about marriage with her instead?
"Mr. Ambrose, are you..." Disbelief was written all over Daphne's face. "Are you kidding me? We’ve just met for the first time, and it's just a blind date. So, how did you get to the point about marriage?"
It was true that her mom was anxious to marry her off, but she's not that anxious to be talking about marriage on a first date.
Raphael continued to hold her gaze. His fingers drummed softly on the table as if he was thinking about what to say next.
After a few seconds of silence, he said seriously, "Miss Goodwin, are you not here with the end goal of getting married? I came here with this intention."
"We are going to get married one way or another. Besides, Miss Goodwin and I seemed fated to meet each other. So, why don't we give it a try?"
"Don't you worry. I have neither a lover nor an illegitimate daughter before our marriage, and that will remain the case after we got married."
"As long as you agree to it and be my wife, I will respect, trust, and protect you. I will never let anyone, including myself, hurt you."
