Mr. Warlord novel Chapter 2

Liam was lost for words when he heard Jeffrey's question. He thought, "Isn't that obvious? Why would the Emperor send me here and call you back if other generals can defeat the enemies?"

But he didn't dare to say that to Jeffrey.

"Tiger General, you are an expert in military strategy. No one is more prestigious and braver than you. The enemy troops would run if you are there with us, and we could win the war even without leading off an attack!" Liam answered in a loud voice.

Everyone was astounded after hearing Liam's words. They just couldn't believe their ears!

"Leave us now. I need time to think. Let's talk about it next time." Jeffrey didn't want to discuss the national affairs in front of the Martindales, so he had to tell Liam to leave.

"Tiger General, you are the most important man to us, and you are indispensable to the Dragon Kingdom!" Liam continued to beg Jeffrey. He thought Jeffrey was still hesitant about going back.

He had reported to his superiors after Jeffrey rejected his request in the street.

But Liam's superiors give Liam a strict order again. Liam must take Jeffrey back with him at all cost. It didn't matter what terms Jeffrey would give and what Liam had to do!

Otherwise, Liam would face a death sentence!

Liam was scared out of his mind. He knew that Jeffrey had gone back to the Martindale's, so Liam followed.

It seemed as if Jeffrey was going to reject his request again. How could Liam be calm?

"That's enough! You're so annoying! I said let's talk about it next time! Didn't you hear me? Now get out of here!" Jeffrey was angry. He couldn't believe that Liam had talked about confidential information in front of so many people.

"Yes, sir!" Liam didn't dare to say another word. He just turned around and strode out, just like how he went in.

Everyone sat in deadly silence with their jaw dropped.

It took them a while to recover from astonishment.

Someone began to clap.

And the rest followed suit.

Jeffrey had received flowers and applause many times. But it was the first time for him to get applause at the Martindale's, so he wasn't quite used to it.

"You don't need to applaud me. I quitted being Tiger General many years ago." Jeffrey spoke as he sat down in his seat again.

He cursed Liam in his heart. Jeffrey just wanted to pretend he was a quiet good-for-nothing, but Liam had exposed his identity to the Martindales at the dinner table. How could Jeffrey keep a low profile from now on?

Jeffrey retired and went back to his hometown when he was still in his prime. He didn't do that because he wanted to marry into a wealthy family. He had a reason which he couldn't tell anyone.

But after Jeffrey went back to Grandsouth City, Brandon asked him to marry into the Martindale family. Jeffrey said yes without hesitation.

He didn't do it because he wanted to live a wealthy life. He accepted it because he wanted to pay a debt of gratitude to Eliza and Brandon.

Jeffrey could never forget the stormy night ten years ago.

He and his mother did not have a place to stay that night. They had to hide under an overpass. Jeffrey's mother had a temperature and was weak from her disease.

He was penniless, so he had to stop cars in the streets and begged people in the cars for money. He wanted to take his mother to the hospital.

He begged and pleaded in the heavy rain, but no one sympathized with him or offered help.

In his most helpless and desperate time, a Bentley stopped beside him.

A girl about his age got out of the car with an umbrella in her hand. She asked Jeffrey about the situation and then asked her grandfather to take Jeffrey's mother to the hospital.

Her grandfather agreed and even praised her.

That kind-hearted girl was Eliza.

The girl and her grandfather not only took Jeffrey and his mother to the hospital but also paid for the medical bills. The old man even gave Jeffrey some money so that he could take care of his mother.

That act of kindness was not a big deal for Eliza and Brandon, but it meant a lot to Jeffrey and his mother. They had helped Jeffrey in his hour of distress and saved his mother.

One must return a favor no matter how small it is. And what if it was a big favor?

Eliza and Brandon had saved Jeffrey's mother's life, so Jeffrey knew he owed a huge debt to them!

That was also the night when Jeffrey fell in love with Eliza. He fell in love with the beautiful kind girl at first sight. But he knew he was lowborn, so he didn't dare to think about being together with her.

When he grew older, he joined the army and made remarkable achievements in the battles. He was appointed as the Tiger General of Defense, the top general of Dragon Kingdom at a young age. He was a legend in the army.

Four years ago, the Martindale family had to face a big crisis. Jeffrey was still powerful at that time, and he helped the Martindales through the crisis by just giving one order.

Only Brandon knew about that. Brandon also knew that Jeffrey helped them because he had helped Jeffrey and his mother many years ago.

When Jeffrey retired and was jobless, Brandon still insisted on letting Eliza, his favorite granddaughter, marry Jeffrey.

Jeffrey looked more at the long term. He had foreseen that an extremely gifted military genius like Jeffrey would become important again and had a bright future.

But Eliza couldn't recognize Jeffrey when they met again after so many years. She did not know that her husband was the boy she had helped.

She had helped many people, and Jeffrey was just one of them.

Jeffrey didn't tell Eliza about any of that. He didn't go to find a job after marrying into the Martindale family not because he didn't want to but because he didn't bother to.

He used to be an indispensable general who could win any battle. How could he work as an office worker and waste his time doing meaningless office work? How could the Tiger General, who used to lead an army of hundreds of thousands of people, take up a random job such as working as a security guard?
