Nathan didn't press further, just gave a slight nod and changed the subject. "You're still not planning on telling him you're sick, are you?"
Before today, Nathan had assumed that even if Evan didn't know the full details of Emma's illness, he surely wasn't completely in the dark. But seeing him today, he realized Evan truly knew nothing at all.
Emma shook her head. "I have no intention of telling him. I didn't before the divorce, and there's even less reason to now."
She looked up at Nathan with a self-deprecating smile. "Besides, whether I live or die from now on has nothing to do with him."
Of course, Nathan was glad that Emma was willing to make a clean break from that man, but hearing her talk so pessimistically, he couldn't help but say with some disapproval, "Don't say that. You're not going to die."
As long as he was here, he would never let the worst happen to her. He would give it his all and never give up.

Karen Hayes grabbed her phone and a shopping basket and headed out to the market.
At first, everything went smoothly. She left the apartment complex, crossed the street, made a right turn, and walked straight for about 300 yards until she reached the market.
As soon as she saw it, she happily snapped a photo and sent it to her daughter.
Emma was in the middle of a chemotherapy session when she saw her mom's message. Seeing that her mother had found the market all by herself, she couldn't help but send a reminder: "Be careful and watch where you're going, Mom. If you forget the way back, remember to call me."
After sending the message and receiving a voice note from her mother saying, "Okay, okay," Emma turned off her phone and closed her eyes.
She wasn't sure how much time had passed when a phone call woke her. Assuming it was her mom, she answered without even looking at the screen.
"Didn't I tell you to call me when you were done?"
The slightly annoyed male voice on the other end made Emma's eyes fly open. She glanced at the caller ID—it was Evan.
"Why would I call you? Is there something you need?"
