Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 289

After the New Year's holiday, the Festival of Lights marked the final celebration of the season.

After her chemo session, Emma realized it was already six in the evening. She checked her phone, surprised to see not a single call or message from her mother.

Feeling uneasy, she opened her contacts and dialed her mom’s number.

After a long series of rings, the call disconnected. It was only then that a real sense of wrongness washed over Emma.

She opened her messaging app. Her last chat with her mother was the “Okay, okay” voice message from that afternoon.

Emma rushed out of the hospital room without even putting her shoes on properly, nearly colliding with Nathan as he was coming in.

“Sorry.”

“What’s wrong?”

Seeing Emma in such a panic, Nathan frowned slightly, his expression filled with concern.

He was holding a new prescription for her painkillers.

“I… Mr. Allen, I’m a little worried about my mom.”

Emma couldn’t quite explain the strange unease she felt. She hoped it was all in her head, that her mom hadn't answered simply because she was cooking in the kitchen while her phone was charging in the bedroom.

But—

She didn’t say any more. Without another moment’s delay, she hurried toward the elevators.

Seeing how anxious she was, Nathan instinctively followed, stepping into the elevator with her just as the doors opened.

“You’re… you’re going downstairs too?”

Emma pressed the button for the basement parking garage.

Nathan nodded slightly. “Didn’t you say you were worried about your mom? What happened?”
