Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 296

Nathan said nothing, just held out his open hand in front of her.

Emma held the tin with both hands and shook it gently until another yellow-green candy appeared at the opening. With one final, firm shake, she dropped it into the warmth of his palm.

"Here you go."

She watched as Nathan popped the candy into his mouth, and after a barely perceptible frown crossed his face, she couldn't hold it in any longer and burst out laughing. She put the lid back on the tin.

"It's sour, not sweet."

Nathan frowned. He had never liked sweets, and he especially disliked anything sour.

The sudden tartness made a crack appear in his usually composed and serious expression for a brief moment.

"Hahaha…"

Seeing Nathan fall for her trick, Emma broke into a wide smile. She leaned back slightly, her eyes crinkling with laughter as she looked at him.

She was laughing, and so was Nathan.

The truth was, even before he ate the candy, Nathan had seen the fleeting expression on Emma's face and realized she was probably trying to prank him.

In his daily life, Nathan was a serious and quiet man who never joked around. He found pranks to be pointless and childish. But when he realized it was Emma trying to tease him, his usual aversion to such things vanished.

It was as if, when it came to her, he could find a million reasons to try anything.

Emma's laughter was genuine at first, but the longer she laughed, the more she felt something was off.

The man in front of her, who was usually so stoic, was smiling too. The corners of his mouth were turned up, and his eyes were filled with a gentle warmth as he looked at her.

As Emma's laughter trailed off, she suddenly couldn't smile anymore.

She looked at the man before her, bewildered, sensing that the atmosphere between them had shifted. She shot to her feet, moving so quickly that she almost bumped her head against his chin.
