Sebastian was a man who never took uncalculated risks, and marriage was no exception. To him, a wife was merely a strategic asset. Lillian Mercer, Bella Ward—they were all the same.
The only difference was that Bella was currently more capable than Lillian, and he needed a capable woman by his side. When he first married Lillian, it was for the backing of her powerful family, which provided essential support during his early entrepreneurial days. She had offered encouragement when he needed it most. That was why he married her.
But the moment Lillian lost her utility, he orchestrated their divorce.
Now, Bella held value. That value made her a suitable candidate for marriage. But the foundational requirement had always been that flawless pre-nup. With her signature secured, his assets were entirely shielded.
After lingering a little longer, the nanny arrived from the estate. Sebastian instructed her to make sure Bella ate and took her medication, then excused himself.
He stepped out of the hotel and got into the waiting car. Julian was already inside and had forwarded the video. Sebastian opened the file, reviewing the footage. Everything was perfect. It clearly showed Bella signing the document, followed by a deliberate shot of the agreement's title. If things ever went south, this evidence was bulletproof.
"Good work," Sebastian said.
Julian hesitated. "Boss, are you sure about this? What if... hypothetically, when the truth comes out, Miss Ward claims she was manipulated and had no idea what she was signing? Could that cause legal issues?"
"She chose to marry me," Sebastian replied coldly. "This is the price of admission."
"Bella, why are you hiding in a hotel when you're sick?" Sabrina fussed. "You're about to join the Blake family! You're going to be a society wife. You should be in a luxury hospital wing, not a standard suite."
"I'm fine, Mom," Bella sighed. "I know my own body. Don't listen to Sebastian's exaggerations. It's just a minor fever."
"Are you sure? You look dreadful. With the wedding right around the corner, we can't afford any hiccups. You know how crucial this marriage is for our future."
"I know, Mom. Please drop it. I'm exhausted and I just want to rest. I didn't want to go back to the Mercer house. That place isn't my real home, and you know it. Everyone there is losing their minds over the company crisis anyway; no one has the time to look after me. Plus, seeing them stresses me out. I'd rather stay here in peace for a few days so I can recover faster.
