"I wanted to take her down with me, but she used her family's money to get rid of me and sent me here."
As Fabian spoke, tears slid down his cheeks. He looked so pitiful that it tugged at anyone’s heart.
The man bent over, studying Fabian’s face. With those features, he definitely had the potential to be a kept man. He reached out and helped Fabian to his feet, only then noticing the injury to Fabian’s leg.
"Your leg..."
"She broke it. That cruel woman was scared I’d find a way back, so she broke my leg. She wanted to make sure I had no future."
Fabian brushed the man's hand away and dropped back down to the ground, looking completely defeated.
"My leg won’t heal. I can’t survive in this place. Just let me rot here, it’s fine."
The man looked at Fabian and couldn’t help but see himself when he’d first arrived. He felt a sharp pang of empathy. Turning to the people behind him, he said, "Carry him to the infirmary. Maybe there’s still a chance to help him."
Two men stepped forward, one on each side, lifting Fabian and carrying him toward the infirmary.
The man followed, limping slightly, his expression hard to read.
At the infirmary, hope was already fading. Fabian’s leg was in bad shape. The doctor examined him, but the injury was old. The best window for healing had already passed.
The man leaned in and spoke in a low voice, "Can you tell how his leg got broken?"
The doctor glanced at Fabian, frowning. "Looks like someone broke it on purpose. The bone’s completely snapped. Whoever did it was ruthless."
The man nodded, believing Fabian’s story. He said to the doctor, "Do whatever you can for him. I’ll pay for everything. Even if you can’t make it perfect, at least help him walk again."
