Varelie noticed the relief in Abigail’s eyes and felt a twinge of embarrassment. She lowered her head, suddenly aware of how silly she’d been. Now that she’d sorted out her feelings, things didn’t seem so bad after all.

Laurinda and Seraphina stepped out of the Lane Estate together. Egan and Sam were waiting by the car. Laurinda scanned the area, surprised that York was nowhere to be seen.
“Where’s York?” she asked.
“Locke took him. Something about updating data or whatever. Come on, we’ll drive you home,” Egan replied as he opened the car door and settled in.
Just as Laurinda was about to climb in, Seraphina reached out and grabbed her arm. Laurinda paused and glanced back with a raised eyebrow. “Did you want something, Seraphina?”
Meeting Laurinda’s bright eyes, Seraphina hesitated, a little shy. “I just wanted to say thank you… for what you did the other night.”
Laurinda hadn’t expected Seraphina to mention it and waved her off with an easy smile. “You don’t need to thank me. The whole Magnolia situation will be taken care of. She won’t be able to cause you any more trouble. And about the Queen collaboration, I explained everything. The misunderstanding’s cleared up, so you and Queen are good to keep working together.”
Laurinda had always known that Magnolia’s plagiarism had nothing to do with Seraphina. She never wanted Seraphina’s hard-earned career to be wrecked by someone so manipulative.
Hearing that her partnership with Queen wasn’t in danger, Seraphina’s face instantly lit up, but then she shot Laurinda a stunned look.
“Wait… you’re really Queen’s designer?”
Her shock made Laurinda laugh. It was obvious Magnolia had already spilled the beans, but Laurinda didn’t care. That secret wouldn’t have lasted much longer anyway.
“Yep, that’s me. Anyway, it’s getting late, so I’m heading home. Come find me when you have time and we’ll chat more.”
She waved, then got into the car and left with Egan. It wasn’t until the car had disappeared down the lane that Seraphina shook herself out of her daze. She suddenly remembered all the new Queen products she’d gifted to Laurinda, and groaned inside. Giving a designer her own brand’s latest releases as a present… What could be more awkward?
Just then, Kendrick walked over and noticed how flustered she looked. “What’s up? Something happen again?” he asked with a puzzled frown.
“No, it’s just… I can’t believe what an idiot I am. Seriously, Kendrick, I feel like the world’s biggest fool.”
He grinned, nodding in fake agreement. “Yeah, you kind of are…”
Seraphina glared at him, her embarrassment turning into mock outrage. “Hey! I can say I’m an idiot, but you can’t. You’re supposed to call me your beautiful fairy, not insult me.”
Laughing, Kendrick reached out and gently pinched her cheek. “Alright, you’re right. You’re my little fairy. My silly, adorable fairy.”
