From Ashes of Scandals to His Embrace novel Chapter 513

“My, aren’t you full of yourself. Anyone watching might think you run Azure Heights.”

Laurinda stepped through the front gates with that usual lazy confidence. The sun was setting and its last light poured over her, turning her hair gold, giving her this glow that made it impossible to look away. Even her old classmates who hadn’t seen her in a while had to admit she looked better than ever.

Theodora just stared. She’d heard the stories about Laurinda, but she hadn’t expected her to be so jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Her hands curled into fists from envy. If only there was some way to ruin that perfect face.

Shirley almost broke into a run when she spotted Laurinda, but her roommate grabbed her by the arm and whispered, “Wait. Let Laurinda handle this.”

Seeing Laurinda walk out, Shirley forgot her own worries and retreated next to her roommate, watching with wide eyes as Laurinda took charge.

Theodora’s group, who’d been acting cocky a moment ago, visibly recoiled as Laurinda approached. Their swagger faded and they automatically stepped back. Maybe they remembered what happened with Fabian and how he just... disappeared from Apex High after crossing the wrong person.

“Laurinda… you’re, you’re back.”

“Didn’t you hear already? Why, surprised to see me in person?”

Laurinda’s gaze moved over the group, barely pausing until she landed on Theodora. Her eyes narrowed just slightly, curious.

“And who are you again?”

Theodora dragged her eyes away from Adolphus and smirked at Laurinda, sharp and cold.

“Not that it’s any of your business. The important thing is that you don’t want to mess with me. Take your broke classmates and get lost while you can. If you don’t, don’t blame me when you’re kicked out. Wouldn’t want you to embarrass yourselves.”

She lifted her chin, acting as if she owned the place and everybody in it.

The students watching all frowned at Theodora’s arrogance. Laurinda had always seemed above it all too, but with her, it felt like she’d earned it, like she was just naturally out of reach. Theodora’s attitude, though, was nothing but obnoxious.
