Sinclair POV
I’m determined to get to the bottom of this mystery surrounding my family, my birth, and ending up in the human city. Aric is determined to figure out how our parents and Iris died the same way, and whether it was connected.
“Tell me about Iris,” I said as we were in the hotel room.
Aric pulled a picture out of his chest pocket. The edges look a bit worn, but he holds it like something priceless. I find it interesting since he has pictures of her on his phone.
“You both are polar opposites,” he began. “She was smart, but not like you. She was smart about pups, cooking, and more domestic things. You are smart with technology, fighting, and more career-oriented things. She believed in love and couldn’t wait to meet her mate.”
“Was Paul really her mate?”
“Yeah. She was devastated by the rejection. Then even more so after finding out she was pregnant and he still rejected her. He destroyed her illusions about love and the mate bond. Even before she was murdered, it felt like the life was already sucked out of her,” Aric said.
“I always thought the fated mate bond was stronger than anything. I mean, all the examples I have seen in my time at Blackstone are how much mates that are fated love each other.”
“Yeah, that’s true, if the mate bond is acknowledged and there is time to let it develop. Sometimes it develops super-fast, and other times, it dissolves before there is a chance to let it grow. What Paul did was worse though. He used our sister and then broke the bond. She lets her feelings in the bond develop, while he treated her like another conquest.”
My eyes narrowed, “How about when we get back, we screw with dear old Paul?”
“What did you have in mind?”
“He hasn’t met me. I’m Kaia’s friend, but she always kept her private life private. I never met Paul, and to date, I still haven’t. Why don’t we pay him a visit and let him think I’m Iris?”
“What do you plan from there?”
“Retribution,” I said simply.
Aric raised an eyebrow at me. “We can plan that and then see how we start. Hopefully he will still be locked up when we get back.”
I chuckled, “Kaia isn’t going to let that asshole out, unless it’s to get rid of him.”
Aric smiled, “Kaia is definitely not what I expected when I met her. I had heard about her, but I thought she would be the docile type.”
