Enzo POV
“Hey, Dad!” My daughter comes running up to me. “Guess what?!”
“What, gumball?” I replied.
“Gumball? Really? I’m about to turn eighteen, Dad. I’m not a little kid anymore,” Poppy said with frustration.
I chuckled. “No matter how old you are, you are my little gumball,” I said, hugging her.
We have only been here for a week. Already, Xavier, Poppy, and my mate, Maddie, are happier than they have ever been. I am not much for packs, but my family is everything. I want them safe and happy, like they are now.
When Aiden and Thalia came back, they had us accept them as their ranked leaders. Thalia took charge of making sure Xavier and Poppy were enrolled in school, and Maddie offered to work in the kitchen with the omegas. Thalia gave her the morning shift, so she could spend the evenings with the family.
Damon’s mate, Aven, just had their pup. A healthy baby girl. They named her Thea. She is cute as a button. Right now, Damon’s in agreement with me. We don’t think much of packs, but the happiness of our family far outweighs our own needs.
Poppy seems really excited to tell me something, though, so I asked her what was going on.
“Luna said that turning eighteen is a special day for she-wolves, because we could find our mates that day. She said she wanted to organize one for me with mom’s help!” She said excitedly.
The Luna is known for being terrifying, though I’ve never witnessed it myself. I tend to lean toward believing the statement, though, based on her mate. Alpha Aiden is definitely not someone who wastes time or mixes words.
“That’s great, gumball,” I said, smiling at her indulgently.
Xavier walked up and snorted, “I pity the man that gets mated to you, sis. You’re a pain in the ass.”
“Language, X,” I said.
I don’t know if it’s because they grew up as rogues or not, but they have always been cutthroat with each other. Xavier is tough. He is large for his age. In the human world, he would likely be a football player.
“Xavy, you wait until it’s your turn. I can’t wait to see you act stupid over your mate. Not that you aren’t stupid already,” Poppy shot back.
I shook my head. “Enough. To school. Both of you. Now,” I said, pointing at the door.
They left, and I cleaned up the table and dishes. Then I made my way to the pack house. Aiden said he wanted to speak to Damon and me. I guess he wants information, but we've already given him everything we know.
When I reached the pack house, I saw a very tired Damon meeting me. I chuckled, as I remembered the early feedings at two in the morning, followed by burping, changing diapers, and cradling my pups back to sleep.
“How’s fatherhood?” I chuckled.
He grunted and flipped me off. Typical Damon. “Wouldn’t change it for the world.”
‘Alpha Aiden, we are in the pack house. Where would you like us to meet you?’ I asked in the link.
‘First floor conference room. I will be there in a few minutes,’ he said and cut off the link.
