I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 101

With that, he strode away. Grandpa sputtered, chasing after him with a string of insults. “You little brat! Who do you think I’m doing this for? It’s for you! You got lucky and now you’re playing the victim. Don’t you dare tell me you didn’t enjoy last night. I could hear the racket you two were making from my room!”

As he ranted, Grandpa glanced back at me, his eyes full of affection. “Zephyra, you get yourself ready and come down for breakfast.”

I obediently replied, “Okay, Grandpa.”

“Good, good. Such a good girl,” he praised with a wide grin, then immediately turned back to Steven, his face a thunderous mask as he resumed his tirade.

“You get back here, you little brat…”

I let out a quiet sigh of relief and hurried to wash up.

But when I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, my eyes widened in shock. I was completely mortified.

The woman staring back had a flushed face, swollen red lips, and a collection of love bites scattered across her neck, including one very distinct bite mark that left nothing to the imagination.

No wonder Grandpa had smiled so contentedly when he saw me. I looked like I’d been thoroughly ravaged. No one would believe me if I said nothing happened last night.

“Steven!” I ground out through clenched teeth, wanting to scream, wanting to tear him apart.

How was I supposed to face anyone looking like this?

In the end, I swallowed my anger. It wasn’t like I could bite him back, and besides, he probably wasn’t in much better shape.

I changed into a turtleneck, even though the autumn air was still warm and the shirt felt suffocating.

By the time I reached the dining room, Grandpa seemed to have finished his lecture. He fussed over me, piling food onto my plate. “You must have been exhausted yesterday. Eat up, get your strength back.”

I gave him a brilliant smile and played along. There was no way I was going to tell him that nothing had actually happened between us. If I did, he’d just pull another stunt.

Steven didn’t expose my lie either. He just ate in stony silence, letting out a sneeze or two. I figured his pride wouldn't let him admit how miserable his night had been; he’d probably lose his appetite from the sheer humiliation.

Seeing me handle the situation so smoothly, however, a flash of mockery crossed his handsome face. A cold smirk touched his lips as if he found my act amusing.
