“You’re an awful person, but we’re not divorced yet. It would be a shame if you died.”
In my past life, Steven was perfectly healthy. But I had been reborn, and now he was showing strange symptoms. What if there was some karmic twist of fate? What if instead of me getting cancer, it was him?
I couldn’t get a dime from him when he was alive; I certainly wouldn't get anything if he were dead. I was truly worried.
The silent Steven’s eyes snapped open. He looked at me sharply, a cold smile on his lips.
“If that’s the case, don’t you worry. I’ll take you with me. I wouldn’t want you to be a lonely widow. We can be husband and wife in the afterlife too.”
“Are you insane? Murder is illegal.”
“Then I’ll just have to die twice. As long as I get what I want.”
Gordon was trying to stifle his laughter in the front seat. I crossed my arms, fuming.
“I’m trying to be nice, and you just throw it back in my face. You can suffer for all I care.”
You bastard. I hope your head hurts every day. I hope you have nightmares every night. I hope your life is a living hell.
A strange thought seemed to cross Steven’s mind. A cold smirk touched his lips before he closed his eyes again, saying nothing more.
I didn’t say anything either. Soon, we arrived at the airport. Gordon handled our check-in, and on the plane, I found myself seated next to Steven.
I shot Gordon a look of disapproval. He gave me a sheepish smile. “Ma’am, it’s not my place to take care of you. Mr. Lancaster would fire me.”
It was an excuse, and I knew it. But there was nothing I could do. I just leaned back and closed my eyes, trying to sleep.
Hours later, the sweet voice of a flight attendant woke me, asking for my meal choice. Still half-asleep, I mumbled something about noodles. When I opened the container, it was full of cilantro. My face fell.
I truly despise cilantro.
Just then, Steven’s long fingers reached over and took my meal, replacing it with his chicken and rice. His voice was cold and deep.
