I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 147

He turned his gaze to Hugo, his voice dangerously low.

“You touched her?”

Hugo flinched at the sight of Steven but quickly regained his composure, speaking with a confidence he clearly didn’t feel.

“Mr. Lancaster, your designer was meddling where she didn’t belong. We had a bit of a disagreement. But we’re business partners. I hit her, so I should compensate her. Let’s just let this go, shall we?”

The project director, seeming to understand that Steven was not a man to be trifled with, jumped in, speaking rapidly in French.

“Yes, yes, Mr. Lancaster! This is Lucid Works’ young master, not just some employee. He and your designer had a small misunderstanding. It’s our fault. We are willing to offer you an even better deal—you’ll be our exclusive domestic partner! The annual profits could reach ten billion! We can’t let this little incident ruin everything.”

Steven let out a soft, noncommittal “Oh.” He then said flatly, “Gordon, bring me the contract.”

My face fell, my heart sinking like a stone.

He was agreeing to it? Just because it was me who got hit, and not Verna, it wasn’t worth sacrificing a deal?

I struggled to sit up. “Steven, he didn’t just hit me, he hit *your* Verna! He beat her badly—her head is bleeding! He was going to take both of us back to his place and rape us. I don’t care if you won’t stand up for me, but are you really going to abandon her for money?”

Only then did Steven seem to notice the other person lying in the corner. His expression didn’t change, but the darkness in his eyes deepened.

Gordon handed him the freshly signed contract. “Mr. Lancaster.”

“Steven!” I cried out in desperation.

The project director and Hugo both let out sighs of relief. A bigger scandal would have been disastrous for them. They were prepared to offer more concessions, but then Steven ripped the contract in half.

Both men stared, dumbfounded. “Mr. Lancaster! That’s a priceless contract!”

“Is it?” Steven’s lips curved into a chilling, almost playful smile. “But my people are priceless.”

Everyone froze, including me. I couldn’t process what was happening.

In the next second, Steven launched himself forward, delivering a brutal kick that sent Hugo flying onto a wooden table. The table splintered in two, sending bottles and glasses crashing to the floor. Hugo let out a pained howl.
